REST IN PEACE
~ SARA HARTING ~
Mother of Hob Kroesen
~ JOHN KASPER ~ Brother of Arlene Blew
~ MATTHEW GEISHAUSER~ Nephew of Joe & Jackie Dullinger
“Eternal Rest Grant Unto Them, O Lord, and Let Perpetual Light
Shine Upon Them. May All the Souls of the Faithful Departed,
Through the Mercy of God, Rest in Peace. Amen.”
Dear Brothers and Sister in Christ,
Today’s Gospel passage is a very
familiar one. Usually we see ourselves
as the ground into which God desires to
sow the seeds of his word. Sometimes
we are open to his word, and the message of God takes root
and grows in us. At other times we are not open to his word
and the seed and we alongside it wither.
It may be helpful for us to look at the parable from another
perspective. While there are times when we need to receive
the Good News with open hearts, there are also times when
we need to be the ones who are actively sowing the Word of
God. After all every gift that God gives us is meant to be
shared, especially the gift of faith.
Obviously we sow seeds through our own words, but so
often our actions carry more weight. Do we sow negativity or
condescension or do we seek to lift up and encourage? Are
our heads up to notice the needs of our neighbor or are they
looking down waiting for the next text or email to appear on
our phones?
We must remember to see ourselves as sowers. Our every
thought, word, and deed, should demonstrate our desire to
live in union with God and the Gospel.
Peace, Fr. Steve

2017 Diocesan Lenten Appeal Update
As of July 6, 2017, we are at 92.94% of our Diocesan established goal. We have pledge amounts for $98,890 of the $106,400. To date $55,974.14 has been paid with $42,915.85 remaining. All pledge payment booklets have been mailed out from the diocese. Keep in mind that if the parish does not reach the goal, the difference will be made up through regular collections. If you would still like to make a pledge, you may do so at the diocesan website (www.hbgdiocese.org, click giving, click Bishops Annual Lenten Appeal) or place your pledge in the collection basket clearly marked “Lenten Appeal”. Understanding that we are in the midst of a major capital campaign for our expansion project, our focus continues to be that! Thank you to all who continue to make great sacrifices for the betterment and growth of our parish. God’s Blessings to you all!
2017 Mission Cooperative “Thank You!”
As of July 10, 2017, a total of $2,923 has been collected
for Fr. Paul Mercieda, CP and the Passionist Mission
Dream in Vietnam. As Father Paul said, missionaries live a
simple life. Public ministry is forbidden, and missionaries
can’t show their identity as priests in public. Yet, they have
found ways to keep very busy behind closed doors,
forming the church of the future. Their wonder is that they
are able to continue! On their street they call the little
rented house, “the house where they make priests”.
Through the Mission Cooperative, Father Paul was able to
tell the Passionist story to all of us at St. Peter Parish. If
you would still like to contribute to Father Paul and the
Passionists, you may do so. Please use the envelope in
your packet or clearly mark a white envelope.
