· CATHOLIC EDUCATION AND FORMATION ·

As we start the 2012/2013 school year at Saint Juliana School, the teachers and staff are looking forward to meet-ing the students and their families. We are eager to work with each of you as we continue our ministry of Catholic education. The entire staff remains committed to our mis-sion of hearing and following the Gospel message, providing an excellent academic program, and assisting our students in accepting responsibility for themselves and others. I hope you will join me and the staff in praying for one another as we strive to provide “life-long learning in a faith-filled com-munity” at Saint Juliana School. Mrs. Kathleen Barton, Principal MORNING ARRIVAL: During the first two days of school, Au-gust 22 and 23, students will gather in the school parking lot near the signs indicating grade levels. The teachers will or-

ganize the students in homeroom groupings. After the first two days of school, students may enter the building from any door on Osceola or the parking lot. The doors will open at 8:05 A.M. Bike riders may lock their bikes on the racks located on the Oketo side of the parking lot by the Junior High entrance. Reminder: the school is not re-sponsible for lost or damaged bikes. In addition, after August 23, please respect our “NO TRAFFIC ZONES” around the school. On school days only, our school parking lot and parts of Oketo and Osceola Avenues will be closed to all car traffic from 7:55 to 8:20 A.M. to provide the necessary safety for all students. DRESS CODE: Students must come in the traditional uniform with black or navy blue shoes. Uniform shorts (not gym shorts), light blue uniform shirts (boys) or white blouses/polo knits (girls) may be worn until October 15. See the school webpage for further details about the uniform: www.stjuliana.org.

A HEARTFELT FAMILY When we are grieving over the loss of a loved one it is so comforting to have the support of the community. The outpouring of love and concern from our St. Juliana Parish family provided an overwhelming confirmation of appreciation for the good works of our husband, father and grandpa. Not only do we thank you from the bottom of our hearts, we know that if Roger were here, he would thank you from the bottom of his heart, as well. Love, The Roger Hejza Family

& CHICAGO’S FAVORITE CELTIC SINGER · CATHERINE O’CONNELL

TICKETS: $10 AT THE DOOR Thoughts from Father Roger… It’s not too often I’m able to give a knowledgeable review of anything, except a Father Phil homily - haha! In the past I wrote a couple of book reviews of Irish history for the old Catholic New World. This time I want to encourage you who are interested in Irish his-tory and Celtic music to come to St. Juliana Church on Thursday, August 23 at 7:00 p.m. to hear Mary Pat Kelly and Catherine O’Connell. Mary Pat is an excellent speaker and the author of a number of books, the most famous of which is Galway Bay. She also produced at least one movie. Catherine is an exceptional singer, and well known in Chicago and to many pa-rishioners of St. Juliana’s. I have had the pleasure of hearing Mary Pat speak and Catherine sing on many occasions. I give them 4 stars out of a possible 4.
