Robb White Writer Robb White was partnered with “gimmich

horror film” king William Castle during Castle’s most popular and productive period. Born in the Philippines, White was a preacher’s son who held a wide variety of jobs before landing in the Navy during world war II. He initially collaborated with Castle on the short-lived TV series “Men of Annapolis” (1957), House on Haunted Hill (1959), Homicidal (1961), and the kiddie-oriented 13 Ghosts (1960). He later went back to TV writing including “Perry Mason”(1957).

Favorite Character My favorite character in the book was Ben, cause he

had strength in him that everyone looks for in them selves, pushing his self knowing that if he didn’t fight every second for his life he would die. I also liked cause I could relate a little bit to him in a way with being stuck in the middle of nowhere

Least favorite Character I had two least favorite characters in this book. The

two least favorite were Madec’s lawyers. These two you can just tell know the whole story and the real truth, they try to convince everyone in Ben’s hometown that Ben would do something as crazy as, make Madec walk through the dessert with not shoes and no clothes.

Exposition Successful Los Angeles lawyer and hunter named

Madec, who hires a 22 year old college student to help him find bighorn in a nearby Desert after receiving a rare permit to hunt them. Ben is low on money, so he accepts. However, things take a deadly turn

Rising action On the third day out, a terrible accident

occurs when Madec shoots at what he thinks is a ram but turns out to be an old hermit. Madec wants them both to lie to the authorities and leave the dead man in the desert. Ben insists on taking the body back to civilization, despite offers of hush money to remain silent.

Climax No longer willing to let nature take its course

Madec shoots Ben in the arm, intending to kill him. Ben is able to clean his wounds and hunt for food at the top of a cliff with a sheltering cave. To his dismay, Madec is now using ropes and pegs to scale the tower of rock in pursuit of his killing for Ben. Ben must take the fight to Madec or be hunted like an animal in a tree.

Falling Action Ben now determined to fight back for his life

makes a risky move to the bottom and take control of the situation and do what he should of done when Madec decided it was his ballgame.

Resolution Just as Ben thinks he has the situation handled

back in civilization, as all of the sudden the whole town start to believe Madec house of lies and tricks. Ben starts to fill like he would of died in the desert being Madecs gene pig on the cliff.

Setting Taking place in the eastern deserts of

California. Conditions are worse then they can get, so hot the sun cracks dries and peels your skin away, the wind blowing sand so fast that its like a sand blaster to your skin and eyes.

Theme The theme of the book was “money cant

buy everything” in the end the only thing you can get is good friends that know your truthful and that trust you. Also don’t be a believer to everything that you see.

My Rating

1-10 Rating on this book I would have to say a perfect 10 for sure! But that’s my opinion, I love being in the out doors and hunting and can picture the book in my head so it made it more interesting and fun to read. I would absolutely recommend this book to any one who likes the out doors and hunts cause you get more into the story and the mystery of it.
