WHY SEFERİHİSAR?

Cittaslow City Seferihisar

For detailed information regarding Seferihisar, the Cittaslow city:

Cittaslow was combined by two words that were Italian “Citta (City)” and English “Slow” to refer to Quiet City. Cittaslow network is the union of towns that was derived from the “Slow Food” movement, which aims to prevent globalization from standardizing the urban fabric, locals and their lifestyles and abolishing the local properties of the towns. Cittaslow is the common name for cities and towns that want to protect their domestic identities and protect themselves from becoming a globalized homogeneous city.

What is Cittaslow?

It is the cities’ consideration of in what ways they are important and special, and development of strategies to preserve these properties. In other words, it is the harmonious pace in the city with the coexistence of urban fabric, color, melody and story; in a way that residents and visitors may enjoy.

To preserve Seferihisar’s Cittaslow identity;

Consciousness efforts that address the mass in Seferihisar should be made towards protecting the seas.

Youth should be given the chance to volunteer in trainings order for them to contribute becoming active and responsible citizens.

Camp Life Of 2013

During the camp, there will be many events such as meeting-socializing games, wind vane makings, drama activities, Sea Training Workshops and Infinite Blue Trainings, diving, boat trips, movie and documentary screenings, trip to Castle Sığacık, workshops and “my nature bag” event.

There are some rules to be obeyed during the camp. These rules are expected to be learnt and agreed via putting the thumbprints on the rules that are written on colored papers under the supervision of elder volunteers. On the first day of camp, various games are played under the name of “socializing games.”

With the cooperation of Ministry of National Education, “Sea Training Workshops” and “Infinite Blue” projects’ environmental trainings are done as presentations in the conference hall of the camp. Information about the importance of aquatic creatures in our lives is given in the training that takes place in the form of questions and answers. After these trainings, a “Coastal Cleanup Movement” happens on a different coast each week. This way the coasts are got rid of pollution; moreover the message that how easy it is to

10

Page 11: Masmavi deniz eğitim kampı booklet-ing (3) (2)

pollute environment, yet how hard it is to preserve it is given to the campers. While the trainings continue, our campers also take diving trainings with snorkels and diving suits, from experienced divers from Ürkmez Shore. This way, they get the chance to swim with aquatic creatures and immortalize this experience.

Our campers, who see the underwater during the daytime, get the chance to socialize with the creative events in the night. The castle trip adventure that starts every Tuesday from Sığacık continues with the coastal cleanup events and finalizes with the participants’ going swimming in the shallow deep blues. During the trip, the campers are expected to use their imaginations and explain what a particular sea-related job does after the names of the jobs are told.

Camp Life of 2013

After the boat trip and diving events, the documentaries “The Story of Underwater Life” and “The Sounds of Living Beings” are shown. This way, the consciousness on draught is increased. Stone coloring and vane making events take place. Towards the end of the camp, the campers are asked to paint some paintings about the subject, under the light of all the information provided to them by our campers. Furthermore, the information about the work they are supposed to do and the materials they would use is to be given by our young volunteers. After this, the campers and artist volunteers who already prepared their materials, start painting the stones. The rest develops with the imaginative talents of children. Based on their wills, some of them by bare hands and some of them by brushes, paint the images they imagined onto the stones with harmless dyes. The pale stones become colorful.

In the first days of the camp, a trip to Castle Sığacık which is one of the most important sights is made and the information about historic importance of the castle is given. The campers who already got the chance to tour Seferihisar are asked to discover the area for themselves. Campers make a tour full of adventure and discovery, on a route that is determined by the trainer that executes the program. During the walk, they do some sensory events while they also by the help of the trainer observe living and nonliving beings that they come across. The trainer’s role is not to transmit all the information that he possesses; instead, it is

11

Page 12: Masmavi deniz eğitim kampı booklet-ing (3) (2)

to invoke curiosity in campers’ minds and by asking questions, helping them deduct information on their own. Every single living being is another discovery for the children. At the end of the adventure walk, the children become “Nature Discoverers”. After different levels of training, with the right to become a “Fellow Trainer” all the campers finish the camp..
