Letter from the editor –
So much happening now!! The committee is preparing for the 8th – 9th August weekend of the 2** Fraser Coast Dressage Championships, which will be the higher level classes, Medium to Grand Prix. There are many entries including four Grand Prix tests and twenty freestyle tests! What a wonderful opportunity to watch some of Queensland’s best dressage horses and riders! Seriously they are all busting to compete after months of competition shutdown, so most of Queensland’s best combinations will be attending. The top level tests will all be in the Covered arena and the Medium tests will be in the Eastern arena. Spectators welcome! The Prep to Elementary classes of the 2** Fraser Coast Dressage Championships will be held on the 4th – 5th October long weekend. So put that date in your diary, either to compete or to help your club run a terrific event. Many hands make light work, and encourages the organisers, who are often nearly worn out! The programs are on the MARC website www.maryboroughactiveridersclub.org.au
The “Rally Day” on11th July proved popular, (see report and photos in newsletter) so another similar “Show Prep Rally Day” is planned for Saturday 22nd August in the Covered arena. Cate Puschmann and Petrea Bates will help with Show presentation (plaiting etc), and workouts. Flyer out soon.
Another Keira McLeod Clinic is planned for the weekend of 29th – 30th August in the Eastern Arena. Her clinics have been very popular last year and recently. Saturday will be flatwork / dressage and Sunday will be poles / grid work. See Flyer in newsletter
Remember there will be three T-Shirt Shows in the next couple of months, 6th September, 27th September and 25th October.

“Rally” – 11th July – Report and photos
Thank you to Petrea Bates for running the afternoon and for this report: - “A highly successful day was held on Saturday 11th July, with 13 riders attending. My trusty sidekick, Monique Bonus, helped put riders through some basic hack work outs, and then we set up cavallettis and bending poles for everyone to trot through. Monique also set up some white cones for some athletic manoeuvres, which challenged the riders and their trusty steeds. After that, we all ventured down to the Horse Play Area, where most of the horses did extremely well. Thanks to Monique for picking up the cavallettis, Pam Thurlow for bring some equipment down from the storage shed, and to Naomi Dunning and Caitlin Cole for taking photos for the newsletter. I think everyone enjoyed the afternoon and were interested to have another similar event soon.” Editor:- A Show Preparation Rally is planned for Saturday 22nd August. Stay tuned for details soon.

Keira McLeod Clinic - Saturday 29th August and Sunday 30th August We are fortunate to have Kiera back for another 2 day clinic with lessons at $58.00 each (including facility fee) Saturday – Flatwork / Dressage Whether you want to work on riding accurate tests, teaching the green horse the foundations, polishing movements or being pushed to the next level! Keira has the experience, eye for detail, and the enthusiasm to get you and your horse there. Dressage Lessons are 1:1 to maximise your training session results. You will leave with a clear ‘homework plan’ to continue with after the lesson. Sunday – Poles / Gridwork Want a fun way to train both yourself and your horse?! Whether you’re an experienced rider or a complete beginner, a showjumper or a dressage rider, pole sequences are endless! And, depending on the goal you have with your horse, Keira will be able to create a pole (and/or grid combinations) setup to customise your lesson goals. Some of the improvements that can be seen within the horse through training with pole / gridwork are - rhythm – balance – style – technique – correct positioning/engagement from the hocks (& lightness of the forehand). A rider will also quickly notice improvements in – sense of rhythm – reactions – balance – body control – confidence Keira is a local coach based at Wide Bay Equestrian Park, which is located between Maryborough and Hervey Bay. She is in the process of getting her EA Coaching accreditation and provides lessons for riders of all ages and abilities, or training for their horses.

Dressage Arena for Sale – MARC is selling surplus equipment.
$300 for full arena and $50 for a set of letters
While some riders are fortunate to have a purpose-built dressage arena, many of us don’t. There are many benefits of practising dressage movements in an actual arena, such as improving accuracy of circles, accuracy of transitions and straightness of lines. Andrea Raynel bought one arena and has it set up as shown below.
As she has it set up in her horse paddock, she resorted to putting an electric fence around it, to stop Lacey entertaining herself by knocking it over!
Now it is much more secure. Andrea confirms “It is great to have a ‘real’ arena to ride in. It has helped with straight lines and circles, giving me more perspective on where they should be.” (Editor: Sorry I was meant to put this in May newsletter!)

MARC is not responsible for the fees at the Maryborough Showgrounds and Equestrian Park (MSEP). These are set by the Fraser Coast Regional Council. Fees for the current financial year To book and/ pay for stables/yards, cleaning bonds, facility fees and camping. www.nominate.com.au/stables/msep.asp Payment by credit/debit card.
Fees until 30 June 2021: • Camping Fees: $22.00 per site per night (maximum 2 nights unless staying for an event at MSEP) • Equestrian Facility Fees: $8.00 per horse per day when riding anywhere on the grounds OR $100.00 “Season Pass” per person for 12 months from the date of payment, and $50.00 per person for any additional family members. • Stable/Yard Fees: $8.00 per stable/yard from 6am to 6am or part thereof $8.00 per tack room from 6am to 6am or part thereof $24.00 per stable/yard cleaning bond payable in advance (refunded if stable is left clean) $24.00 per stable/yard cleaning fee payable in advance (optional – no cleaning bond required) Stables/yards are locked and 48 hours notice is required when making a booking. $155.00 “call out” fee to unlock stables if not booked 48 hours in advance To check availability of grounds go to www.maryboroughpark.com.au or contact the Venue Office 4122 3584 or 0427 773 760.
