February’s Virtue is Empathy
God wants us to care about everyone’s
feelings. Empathy is the ability to put
oneself in another’s shoes and the
capacity to feel what the other person is
feeling.
An empathetic person listens when
someone speaks; notice when someone
is upset and tries to help and accept that
others have different perspectives.
Mrs. Girdler, we consider ourselves lucky to have known someone like
you who was so difficult to say goodbye to.
THANK YOU for all that you have brought to our school community! Your friendly ways, caring attitude and
laugh will be missed throughout the school. We’ve been lucky to have you as our Principal, even if it was for
a short a time. You will be missed by everyone!!
We want to give a warm welcome to Mr. Brad Lacey who joins us as our new Principal
on February 4. Mr. Lacey is originally from Chepstow and many parents will already
know him. Please be sure to say Hi when you see him and let him know we are happy
to have him join our Mary Immaculate family.
Message from Mr. Lacey: Hello Everyone!! I am very happy to be returning to the Mary Immaculate School Community. I grew up on our family farm just north of Chepstow and first joined Mary Immaculate School as a Kindergarten student in 1977. Yes, they had running water back then. They did not have Junior Kindergarten. I moved on to Sacred Heart High School and then went to The University of Western Ontario where I completed a Degree in Physics. My next stop was The University of Windsor where I completed my Teaching Degree. I started my teaching career at St. Mary’s High School in Owen Sound in the Spring of 1995. I have taught Business, Science, Mathematics, Resource, and Student Success throughout the years, and was the Vice-Principal there for the past three years. My family are parishioners of Mary Immaculate Church. I was an altar server, a reader, and I am also a member of the Building Committee. My wife Patti-Jo is a Grade 7/8 teacher at Holy Family School in Hanover. We have two sons: Pearce who is in Grade 10 and Maverick who is in Grade 8. We enjoy many activities, including hockey, baseball, soccer, swimming, four wheeling, snowmobiling, working on the family farm, and being outdoors. I want to thank Mrs. Girdler for all that she has done for Mary Immaculate School and in helping me to prepare to be your new Principal. Best wishes to Mrs. Girdler in her role as the new Principal of St. Teresa of Calcutta School in Walkerton.

Chepstow Community Hall This meeting is open to the general public.
PARENTING TIP OF THE MONTH February is the month we celebrate love on Valentine’s Day, but the commercialism of the day can confuse children and make them believe that love is only about giving and/or receiving something. While that may be part of love, true love unfolds every day in the way we treat each other, help each other and care for each other. True love takes work, requires action and seeks to meet the needs of the one we love. Talk to your children, no matter the age, about what real love actually looks like, so they can grow up to give and expect that kind of love in their lives. (From: Teresa Hartnett, Family Ministry Office, 905-528-7988 ext. 2250) MARRIAGE TIP OF THE MONTH Love is a choice, or more importantly, how we love is a choice. We can choose soft, complimentary and caring words, or we can choose harsh, cutting and angry words. Emotions in any relationship can run high at times, but we can control our emotions if we choose. We can take a moment to breathe deeply, ask ourselves if we want to hurt or offend the one we love and decide what the better words and tone to discuss an issue might be. When we choose wisely, we love more fully and our spouse responds in kind. Love is a choice – make wise decisions and your marriage will flourish.

A Parent’s Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven
I am a parent on earth.
You have given me this gift and responsibility.
Grant me the wisdom to carry it out.
Let my parenthood be one of encouragement and support, not of expectations and control.
Let me protect my children, but not too much; advise them, but just a little.
Let me respect them as individuals, not as extensions of myself.
Let me be honest about my feelings toward them—including anger, disappointment, hurt,
excitement, joy and love.
Let me be firm without dominating them.
Let me be sensitive to their feelings without trying to change them.
Let me be there for them when they need me and get out of their way when they don’t
Let me offer them the roots of belonging, and the wings of freedom.
Help me, Father in heaven, to be a mother/father on earth.
