TELL ME ABOUT YOURSELF

• My name is Janet Smith. I grew up in southern New Jersey. I am the youngest in my family of three brothers; one a Doctor, one a dentist and another a professional dancer.

• After completing my Bachelor of Science at UCLA, majoring in Computer Science, I wanted to learn more about human computer interaction and Cornell seemed to have a good reputation in that field, so I decided to complete the one year MENG program here at Cornell.

• By the description of this position, it sounds like you are looking for someone that might combine my programming experience and HCI knowledge, so I am very happy to be interviewing for this position today.

• And on a side note, I like to travel; and in the last two years, I travelled to China, Europe and Australia.

BEHAVIORAL QUESTION

Tell me a time when you were on a team and things did not go as planned?

-Action -• After the first two meetings, one of the students was late to

both meetings and I sensed that she was not engaged so I decided to talk to her to see how I could help.

• I found out that she was overwhelmed with coursework and had a personal problem back home.

• So I offered to help her with some of her responsibilities of the project while assigning smaller tasks with longer deadlines, that would still contribute to the team’s mission.
