¡Hola! I’m Marti the
Hammerhead Shark.
Marti the Hammerhead Shark A Galapagos Journey
This educational storybook tells the tale of a young scalloped hammerhead
shark’s journey from her home in the Galapagos Islands to Cocos Island, a vast
migration across the Pacific Ocean.
Along the way, our intrepid shark encounters other marine friends who share the magical but perilous adventure with her.
A group of scientists track this incredible journey, hoping to discover more about the
migration of species along this ocean ‘swimway’.
Join them on their quest to protect our brave explorers on their journeys now and
in the future.

On Friday 1 March 2019, please help us
to make our storybook crowdfunder a success
by pledging your support and sharing the project through
your networks.
Please help us to achieve our target of providing 1,000
storybooks for children in Galapagos!
Every book that is bought in the UK during the
campaign, will fund one for a local child.
Swimway ScienceGlobally, sharks are increasingly threatened from over-fishing with an estimated 100 million killed by humans every year. The Galapagos Marine Reserve (Ecuador) and Cocos Island National Park (Costa Rica) represent important sanctuaries for many endangered species including scalloped hammerhead, silky and whale sharks.
As these animals are extremely vulnerable to industrial fisheries once outside of marine reserves, we are working to protect this important migratory route known as the ‘Swimway’. Galapagos Conservation Trust (GCT), MigraMar and the Galapagos Science Center are working with a wide partnership network to provide the research needed to make the Swimway a reality.
Story-telling is a powerful engagement tool that lends itself brilliantly to outreach
activities open to the whole family.
With your support, we want to connect every child in Galapagos with ocean
science and conservation through Marti’s story. We aim to provide packs for
every school in the Islands and will host community awareness-raising events.
Help us to inspire the next generation of ocean conservationists
