Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations WRIGHT STATE UNIVERSITY November 1991 - January 1998 Coordinated development of philanthropic support from corporations and foundations for a comprehensive public university. Engaged trustees of the university and its affiliated foundation, university president, deans, and faculty in relationship-building and major gift solicitation. Facilitated university-wide efforts to determine institutional priorities and develop cases for support. Created prospect clearance/project authorization policies to ensure strategic coordination with the university's sponsored research program, initiated and stewarded relationships with top corporate and foundation executives, wrote proposals, and advised deans and faculty regarding proposal development. Provided fundraising counsel to nonprofit organizations, assisting clients' leadership and staff in planning and carrying forward capital campaigns, major, annual, and planned giving programs. Counseled clients on related issues such as mission, communications, and organizational needs. Worked on free-lance basis exclusively for firm that had recruited me for an earlier position at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden; I subsequently moon-lighted with them occasionally over the years and, eventually, declined the firm's offer of partnership.

Director of Development and Alumni Affairs UNIVERSITY OF CINCINNATI COLLEGE OF DESIGN, ARCHITECTURE, ART & PLANNING March 1989 - July 1991 Built and directed one of the university's first collegiate advancement programs. Developed major gifts for four schools within the college, and coordinated school directors' objectives with college-wide development priorities and projects. Raised $12 million (more than required one-third private support portion required by state) for a $32 million new building project designed by a signature architect, and coordinated media and public relations strategies to enhance the college's international visibility in concert with the building's completion. Engaged dean, faculty, administrators, and volunteers in donor/prospect cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies. Supervised annual direct mail and telephone fundraising programs, and stewarded relationships with cooperative education student employers. Director of Development Operations Director of Development, Center for Reproduction of Endangered Wildlife CINCINNATI ZOO AND BOTANICAL GARDEN May 1986 - March 1989

As Director of Development Operations: Directed operations for the zoo's fund development programs during $13.5 million capital campaign. Coordinated activities of staff and volunteers to complement campaign, marketing and membership programs, and all other institutional operations. Responsibilities included budget preparation, personnel, financial reporting, foundation relations and government resource development, management of annual and major gift solicitation strategies, and close participation in institutional planning for expansion and habitat re-design of zoo and botanical gardens. Created and implemented departmental and institutional goals and policies regarding donor relations, prospect research and management, grant compliance, computer operations, and expenditure and project authorization.

As Director of Development, Center for Reproduction of Endangered Wildlife: Built giving program charged with providing all operating and capital support for the then-fledgling center for animal and plant reproduction of endangered wildlife. Developed case statement, obtained board approval, and conducted $4.4 million building and endowment campaign for new research facility. Implemented annual giving/membership society. Wrote the zoo's first successful proposals to the federal Institute of Museum Services, and sought and won other government and private foundation grants. Managed special events and produced print and audio-visual fundraising communications. Worked closely with trustees, executive director, animal and plant management staff, volunteers, fund-raising counsel, publicity manager, film and advertising agencies, new building architects, and international wildlife conservation community to promote the research program and align development efforts with overall institutional mission.

Center for Reproduction of Endangered Wildlife, Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden: $4.4 million goal surpassed for new facility and program endowment.
