Teaching PhilosophyPhilosophyI was in my 3rd year of teaching special education when I enrolled in the TIE program. My teaching philosophy was solely based on special education initiatives. However, after researching various topics and theories within the TIE program, my philosophy has transformed to include more constructivist ideologies. My new teaching philosophy is that students learn through experience; and it is the responsibility of the teacher to bring in tools and resources to help students gain knowledge through engaging experiences. Technology can assist teachers in transforming a normal class with 4 walls, into a class with no walls. Lessons should expand beyond the classroom and allow students to gain experiences beyond what textbooks and lectures offer. I feel that traditional classrooms limited students learning and now with technology, students are able to actively learn and make connections to the curriculum. Technology, when implemented correctly, allows students to deep dive into lessons and gain new experiences. My teaching philosophy is aligned with the constructivist theory because I believe that knowledge is truly gained through various experiences. Constructivism suggests that humans construct knowledge and meaning from their experiences. - http://sydney.edu.au/education_social_work/learning_teaching/ict/theory/constructivism.shtml#sthash.RzkYdZtl.dpuf
