Past Term Reflections

Le Estcwéý (The Missing) Since the end of May 2021, when the results of the findings of theground penetrating radar were released to the public, the worldspotlight has been on TteS; as your Kùkpi7(Chief) I took action with thesupport of Council and our Language and Culture Department. Alongwith former leadership for input and guidance on next steps ,13Grassroots families , Membership, Secwepemc Kukupi7s, BCLeadership, First Nations Leadership Council, Regional and NationalChiefs, Ministers, the UN Special Rapporteur, and Prime Minister.

COVID-19 PandemicUnprecedented times, now in 4th wave. Ensuring the safety ofmembers and staff, accounting for COVID funding and its impacts bymeeting with FNHA, DR Bonnie Henry, QHS, Vaccination advocation,and endorsing a Secwepemc State of Emergency.

Wildfires 2021Opened the gates to evacuees displaced by the wildfires. Establishedan Emergency Operations center along with council, so much gratitudeto all the volunteers and community members that helped throughdonations, cooking, or just visiting and providing support.

PoliticalEngaging with the new Provincial DRIPA legislation and reviewingproposed Federal UNDRIP legislation. Political Advocating with MLAs Peter Milobar, Todd Stone and MPCathy McLeod, now MP Frank Caputo.

Political and strategic advocacy with National Chief RoseanneArchilbald, previous NC Perry Bellegarde BC Regional Chief TerryTeegee, Secwepemc Kukpi7 Wayne Christian, and the Union of BCIndian Chiefs. Development of a Political Strategy to advocate TteS concerns at theMunicipal, Regional, Provincial and Federal levels of governments.

Participation in Qwelmínte-Secwepemc Government to Government,Stk’emlúpsemc te Secwépemc, Shuswap Nation Tribal Council,Stsmémelt, Secwepemc Health Caucus meetings, Interior HealthCaucus meetings, BCAFN & AFN Meetings.

BELIEFS

Personal Wellness leads to Community Wellness. SuccessfulLeadership is about including our members in creating our Legacytogether. We truly must stay united and stand in solidarity for ourfuture generations and must continue on our path towardsreconciliation and our healing. We all must be that change fortomorrow.

This election represents a significant & continuing opportunity toaddress the numerous gaps needed for real change when it comes toseeing results in real changes for our children, families and ourcommunity. Resiliency is thru our Language & Cultural Revitalization,Education for our children & Leading by example
