MARNEBEK WEEKLY UPDATE

RESPECT | RESPONSIBILTY | RESILIENCE | SAFETY

Dear Parents and Carers,

As week four of remote learning draws to a close, I’m keen to check-in on parents, students and

staff to make sure we all stay connected and feel supported.

Marnebek School Facebook Group

This week a post was sent out via Compass inviting parents and families to join our Facebook

Group. The group is a great place for us to share updates, pictures/videos and a place to be ‘social’. It ‘s also a place for the par-

ents, to get to know each other, engage and connect.

As we continue on our remote learning journey, it’s been fantastic to see the great work that our students have been com-

pleting on SeeSaw and through our take home materials.

It’s been such a great effort from everyone in our community with making the absolute best of our current situation. Have a

look at the great things students have been doing at home in the latest edition of our Weekly Update.

Finally, in reflecting on Mother’s Day, I would like to acknowledge and celebrate mothers and mothering. I make the distinction

because I know that many people—aunts, step parents, close family friends, dads—fulfil the chief mothering role in our fami-

lies. I’m wishing everyone a wonderful Mother’s Day this Sunday.

Kind regards,

Jennifer Hamilton

Principal

What does Remote Learning look like in Room 308?

The 3 Golden Rules for successful outcomes!

A few words from our teacher…………..

“I like to thank Lysanne Hedges (ES) and Nicole Lamers (ES) for all their hard work during this uncertain time, we have made the best of this situation!

To our Rm 308 parents, we thank you for your partnership and your hard work at home implementing the lessons we have made. All of you are doing an amazing job and you should be proud of your efforts to teach, learn and work from home.

To our beautiful students—we love seeing your work, photos and videos you are posting to Seesaw. We are very proud of you all and are looking forward to seeing you when school gets back.

EAGER E-LEARNERS AWARDS

Here is just a sample of some of our eager e-learners this week:

EAGER E-LEARNERS @ MARNEBEK

“Patrick has had a fantastic week. He is up

bright and early every morning. He has been

reading sight words and writing every day. He

has also made a great rainbow hat and

danced like a demon. Great work Patrick Tran!

“ Linda Cookson, 304 Classroom Teacher

“Penina has been doing lots of activities from her learning pack including matching her name, numeracy and also outside activities with her siblings.

Ashton has been engaging in lots of outside activities with his family during this time including bike rides and jumping on the trampoline.”

Libby Butcher, 206 Classroom Teacher

“Thomas has been doing a marvellous job with his remote learning. He has been an enthusiastic and resilient learner.

For our writing focus this week, Thomas wrote a story about the writing prompt – ‘What Can You See in the Jungle?’ He used a thesaurus to find synonyms to replace simple words, found adjectives to describe the animals and the jungle and started exploring the use of different sentence openers to make his story more interesting!

Thomas is a fantastic storyteller and read his story aloud using lots of different ex-pressions. Well done Thomas!”

TEACHING & LEARNING REMOTELY IN MIDDLE SCHOOL

By Patrick Deligiannis, 102 Classroom Teacher

“To begin with, I would like to thank all my work colleagues, teachers, leaders, allied health, the specialists, ES staff for assign-

ing all these great activities on Seesaw during these challenging times.

I am not going to lie, it has been quite challenging this whole remote learning process. We had to learn and familiarise our-

selves with; so many new programs and routines. Everyone has worked so hard; my highlight last week though was my first

live conferencing with my class. It started with two people being connected and reached seven during the first conference. At

this point, we had 10 connected students out of 13 in total. It has been a great way to connect with my students so much so

that they requested a second meeting. So now, we meet at 11.00 am and at 2.00 pm daily.

On Friday we had our first online virtual Kahoot on Natural Disasters. Meeting with my students is the best part of my day,

we can literally simulate and replicate all the things we used to do in class. We are trying to keep consistency and follow our

timetable to a point. From now on, we are going to try to wear our school uniforms too in every meeting. It is a great tool for

synchronised learning, socialising, communicating, connecting and interacting with each other. It has been a great stress re-

liever for both parents and students!”

MARGARET KAPLAN PSYCHOLOGIST

Hi, my name is Margaret.

My role as a Psychologist at Marnebek over the ten years I have worked here has been very rewarding as I interact with students, parents, staff and our multi-disciplinary therapy team to promote emotional and social well-being.

During my spare time I enjoy watching television and reading. You can also find me going for walks and stopping to admire our local bird life. I like to communicate with family and friends on social platforms. We have had a few virtual celebrations including a birthday and a dinner. A lot of laughter and humour accompanied this despite being in social isolation!

Whilst working from home I have reached out to parents and students to find out how they are going during these uncertain times and provided support.

MoSolation Challenge

Here’s the weekly update on our MoSolation Challenge. Week 4and they’re still in good spirits! Well done Rick, John, Lysan, Gerry, Liam and Steve……watch this space grow……….
