FOOTBALL CLUB
A VERY WARM WELCOME TO YOU ALL And particularly to the officials, players and supporters of FC Romania are here this afternoon for this BetVictor South Central League match. This is the third meeting between our respective clubs this season as we met earlier in the league (away) winning 4-1 and then in the Velocity Trophy with us winning that game on penalties following a 2-2 draw in normal time.
Recent weather has not been too kind, and I think has deterred some from making the trip here, so particular thanks for coming this afternoon. Those who did make the trip last Saturday to Chalfont St Peter saw an very enjoyable encounter in which we gave a good account of ourselves, putting the home club under great pressure in the first half and only conceded late on when 3-0 ahead. This came from a wrong decision to take a short corner that backfired, consequently a quick break left us short in numbers at the back having gone forward in anticipation of a conventional set piece.
However, this must be put into context of what had gone before which was a continuation in the improved performance levels seen of late – greater confidence – scoring goals – and looking much more threatening – long may this continue.
We are back in action again on Saturday next when we make the trip to high-flying Hanwell Town and then away again on the following Tuesday to South Park – this game being pushed back a week as South Park are in action in their county cup. But before that we have this afternoon’s game to address and apply ourselves to. And it is not too long before we have a trip to Maidenhead United to also look forward to in the next round of the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup to be played on January 28th – a very busy month.
As this is our first game of 2020 may I wish you all the very best for a successful and prosperous New Year from all at Marlow FC.
Now for my usual closing plea to get behind the lads and support at all times – it really does make a difference and will do particularly over the coming months.

SOUTH CENTRAL WEEKEND ROUND-UP
We had only one match in the South Central Division, and it saw fifth place Uxbridge travel to face Staines Town, who started the day in eighteenth.
Uxbridge had lost only two of their last ten, whilst the Swans had only two wins from the same period- but it was the home side who were soon ahead, Klajdi Cani scoring after only eleven minutes- and the same player doubled their lead from the spot two minutes before the break. The Red Army were given something to sing about thirteen minutes after the break as Mahlondo Martin halved the deficit, but the Swans were able to restore their two goal cushion when Joseph Wilson scored with only nine minutes to go- so that was that.
Only it wasn’t.
Callum Bunting almost immediately reduced the deficit,
and then with a minute left Reece Yorke made it three-
three and earned the visitors a point. Uxbridge remain
fifth, and the Swans stay eighteenth.

THE NON-LEAGUE PAPER COLUMN Over recent weeks at NLP Towers, we’ve been reminiscing about the last ten years in Non-League football and picked out some of the most significant moments and their protagonists. You may have seen the features in the paper and there were plenty of tough calls among those we just had to get in. But it quickly dawned on us that it’s an almost impossible task. When we put the question out on social media the responses came flooding in.
From favourite goals to individual matches, cup wins and title triumphs – the list went on and on. In many ways the variety of replies shows just how vast Non-League football is, and how much so many different clubs mean to people.
While sometimes we may question standing in the cold on a wet December night, when those big moments come along it makes it all worthwhile. Of course, the debate is subjective. That is also what makes this game so much fun to watch and care about. The discussions that fill a car ride home from an away game or are had over a pint in the bar after a game.
The last ten years have gone by in the blink of an eye. The very landscape of Non-League football has changed since the decade began. Clubs have risen through the Pyramid, others have sadly slipped off the map altogether.
There are new play-off formats in the National League’s three divisions and there are even play-offs at Step 5. We’ve also seen the introduction of new divisions at Steps 3 and 4 – with the latter to get another – taking the level to eight – next year.
The make-up of Step 5 and 6 will also be changing. Without a crystal ball it’s impossible to know exactly how Non-League will look in another ten years. There will surely be plenty of differences and there are issues the game needs to collectively address in the near future. Will the EFL accept three-up, three-down? Will their clubs want to allow the use of artificial surfaces? Will there be rule changes to ensure the sustainability of clubs?
Time will tell, but at the heart of it, football fans will hopefully still be enjoying those special, and very personal, moments. So, let’s hear your moment, manager and player of the decade – email us at [email protected] or tweet us @NonLeaguePaper and your answer may be featured in the paper!

A BRIEF HISTORY OF FC ROMANIA FC Romania was founded in
August 2006 by a group of
Romanian workers in
England who wanted to play
football in their spare time.
Ion Vintila entered the team
into the Sunday London
Weekend League playing
their games on Hackney Marshes. FC Romania won their Division
in the first season and finishing runners up in the next. In 2008 FC
Romania switch to Saturday football and joined the Essex
Business House Football League, playing at Low Hall Recreational
ground in Walthamstow, north east London. In 2010 the club
moved to the Middlesex County Football League Division One,
playing at Leyton Sports Centre and finished runners up in the first
season gaining promotion. The following season in the Premier
league FC Romania finished runners up but were denied
promotion to senior football due to the ground regulations.
2012 FC Romania started their ground sharing relationship with
(then) Ryman League outfit, Cheshunt FC in Hertfordshire. They
played another season in the Middlesex County Football League
and again finished runners up. Also, in this season FC Romania
won the Middlesex County Senior Open Cup, beating Bratham 3-
1 in the final at Uxbridge FC. The club applied for promotion to
the Essex Senior League and played their first season in the ESL in
2013-14 finishing 5th. The following year FC Romania slipped one
place to 6th but had been pressing for promotion since 2015-16.
A BRIEF HISTORY OF FC ROMANIA In 2012 -13 season the club entered the FA Vase for the first time
only getting past the first round. 2014-15 the club entered the FA
cup reaching the 2nd round qualifying before just losing out to
Sutton United 3-2, after beating Haverhill Rovers, Heybridge
Swifts and AFC Sudbury on the way.
The club has gained a lot of attention in its short life from various
media outlets in England, abroad and of course in Romania. The
club and the manager have appeared in sports newspapers and
magazines including , BBC Sport, Gazzetta dello Sport, L’equipe,
The Times, The Sun , FourFourTwo magazine to name a few and
on television in the UK on BBC on Japanese TV with NHK and on
Romanian TV stations Pro TV and Digi Sport. The club has
developed into a focal point for the Romanian community but has
also attracted many local and English fans as well.
The club has ambition to progress through the leagues and reach
higher standards of football while developing the club further.
The aim is to eventually have our own home and become a
respected and establish part of English football encompassing all
the good things about England and Romania and being successful
in everything we do.
