Takes it out on Mrs Kidd “It’s me that bears the brunt” ← Mrs Kidd is treated as if she’s responsible for

Howard’s failing.“You women this, you women that” ← Howard needs somewhere to focus his

anger“You’re going to have to be very careful how you handle him” ← childish,

vulnerable. Marlene has to treat him carefully because he is very fragile. His ego is hurt

Mrs. Kidd represents an older set of cultural values in which women were expected to remain in the domestic realm and support their husbands' career aspirations.
