Current Employment - Staffordshire University 2005 - Present

I am a Digital Imaging Technician and Instructor within the School of Art & Design. As part of a small team, my role is primarily to deliver formal instruction to creative arts students from multiple disciplines. I deliver sessions in the latest Adobe Creative Suite and bespoke sessions in digital printing, colour management and web design. Outside these formal sessions my role is to support the students, within the computer labs, with software issues or with any help the students require. Delivering support for teaching in art and design courses, including Photography, Graphic Design, Illustration, Photo Journalism & Product Design, all of which demand a variety of skill sets. Another prominent part of my role includes: Macintosh desktop support; setup and administration; server support; and the creation and deployment of custom disk-images.

About meI am an effective problem solver, both creative and technical. I graduated with a First-Class (Hons) Degree in Fine Art and the diversity of skills I gained as an undergraduate have now flourished within my current role working for the Staffordshire University. Coupled with many years of technical experience, I offer a unique diversity and understanding of creative problem solving. I have worked with creative people for many years and there is nothing more satisfying than to enable people to achieve their creative ambitions. I am very approachable and this has been an essential asset in my current role. I am conscientious, punctual, polite, patient and meticulous. I am an effective communicator visually, verbally and in writing.

SoftwareMy IT skills go beyond creative software knowledge to include Unix scripting, advanced mac server support, deployment and desktop administration. I am a quick learner and I feel I have an aptitude for assimilating new software. I welcome the opportunity to improve my skill set by learning more software packages. Although predominately a Mac user, I do keep abreast with Windows systems.

“Technology is nothing. What's important is that you have a faith in people, that they're basically good and smart, and if you give them tools, they'll do wonderful things with them. ”

Other SkillsI have a wealth of knowledge within digital print and can offer guidance on print finishing and alternative printing processes. I also have experience in traditional photographic processes. My digital stills have given me the opportunity to collaborate with clients outside my working environment and take on consultancy work. I have worked on several University research funded projects: print production assistance; Photoshop retouching; and web design. This also extends to current working relationships outside the University with colleagues furthering their professional portfolios.

InterestsI am an active person, with many outdoor interests and hobbies. For many years I have been a keen hill walker and climber - my favourite place is in the mountains. I do have a competitive streak too. I am in my second season of competing in Triathlons and am currently training for a marathon. In contrast to my leg powered pursuits I am a keen motorsport fan - both two wheels and four. This isn’t limited to just watching. I have competed in karts, although my budget and skill never matched my ambitions. Instead, I get my speed fix (in the summer) with my Suzuki Bandit! Any remaining time, I tend to fill with ‘geeky’ pastimes such as Sci-Fi films, box-sets, gaming and even making homebrew! Despite how this may read, I am a sociable person!
