aboutThe Artist, Luisa Henao, is inspired by good vibes. She recognizes them as both thick and thin – and always incorporates them into the art she creates. Her artist talents include acrylic, ink, oil paint, pastels, photography, sculpture, water paint and jewelry making. One of Luisa’s favorite artists is Salvador Dali. Currently, she is a student of Art at Montclair State University and a resident of Wayne, NJ. Upon obtaining her degree, Luisa hopes to open an Art Gallery and continue to expand her talents as an artist. When she is not creating art, Luisa enjoys relaxing, reading, music, food and hiking. She enjoys all music – from Jim Morrison and the Beatles to Dr. Dog and the Growlers. Her favorite books include The Unbearable Lightness of Being, The Tipping Point and 100 Years of Solitude.

q+a withQ: Why Luisa Henao and Art?

A: Art is the only thing I’m interested in – the only type of environment I’ve always found myself thriving in, personally, professionally and throughout my education. Q: You create Art in a variety of different ways. What is your favorite art practice and where would you like to further expand your creative talents?A: I love painting with oils because you can make mistakes and go back to the painting a day later. I also really enjoy pastels because they are fun to do shading with and the tones are warm. I’ve recently become interested in film photography and jewelry making as well.

Q: When you create artwork centered around people, what do you feel connected to that inspires you to create something?A: I’ve always felt a strong connection with nature – both the good and the bad that it can bring to human connection. In a lot of my art, you will see a theme centered around “trees” – which is funny, because I don’t always start out with the intention of incorporating them into the piece that I am working on. To me, trees can be scary – but also very beautiful at the same time. I’m inspired by colors, after a day hiking or a picture I came across. Most times, I draw on my feelings alone and it leads into creating an abstract painting. It’s an interesting and exciting process to me.

All of Luisa Henao’s photography is captured and based on real moments in the present time. Luisa has enjoys being able to capture something as it is – that she finds an emotional attachment to – whether pleasant, horrible or beautiful. She can distinctly remember every picture she has ever taken and the moment it happened.

The Photographs in this collection were taken in parks throughout New York City and in Paterson, New Jersey. Luisa chooses to photograph in black and white because she feels an old, crisp feeling to the end result.
