What are film trailers?

The main thing that I understand about film trailers is that they are a preview of the film but it is just a teaser which hopes to entice the customer in. The film teaser will contain all of the best bits and all of the famous characters.

Why are they made?

They are made to make the public aware of the new film that is to be released soon. Trailers are the thing that the public usually hear about the new film. Without the trailers the public wouldn’t know exactly what they were to see as they would only know what was put online etc.

Who are they for?

The film trailers are for the public. They will be seen by everyone who has a TV. The main people who will be interested in them will be the people that are interested in the main actors and the film critics, plus the public who are the ones they mainly aim at as they are the ones who will in the end pay for the film

How do they work?

They work to gain our interest. They are made to have a unique

part to them. Film trailers aim to be different to any other in the

media so they must find a way to do this.

Where do we see them?

Film trailers start of by being shown in cinemas as this is where

the real film will be shown, but they are also shown on TV and

then online. By having many places to be shown it is gaining

more public interest. In some cases they are advertised on

posters in magazines.

When are they released?

Film trailers are produced before the film is finished being

edited. The trailer must be advertised at a specific time as the

timing is very important. There needs to be plenty of time for it

to be out before the film is released to create excitement as it

will make more people want to see it and this is a main aim of

all films.

Conclusion:

The marketing package signifies the genre of the film as it is always clear when the film is being advertised due to the special effects that have been used and included. It is also apparent when you hear the background music as the beat/tone of it defines the genre as if it was loud and fast paced it would be apparent that it was an action film where as if it was soft and flowing then it would be a romantic film. Battleship seems to be an action film just be the background music. I think that it shows what the genre of the film is due to many contributing factors such as the emotion and facial expressions and costume that is worn. The trailers only give snippets of what the film will contain as they want to keep the suspense going. The trailers show what the film will be about but by only showing bits of allows us to create an idea but have to wait to see if its true when the film comes out.

Since the day that word came about of the film it has been largely

publicised in and around the media industry. There has been a trailer

which was leaked for all of the public to see which is shown in cinemas,

online and on TV. The way in which they have marketed their film is due

to the people who are in it as some of them aren't even famous for

acting so this is seen as a career move for them and by doing this they

are also bringing in their fans which will create more audience and more

feedback. The film cost a lot of money to make and produce but this will

all be paid back due to the amount of people who will go and see the

film. They leaked the trailer when the film was on in the final editing

stages of production this meant that the audience would have time to

think about going to see the film and have just enough time to

remember about it as there is no point in advertising it early. The genre

of the film is shown throughout the trailer as at the start it seems like a

mystery but this has been done to just create tension and then to plunge

us into the storyline.
