With a new “less fl uff, more results” strategy in place, 7 W New York is on a mission to attract a more targeted pool of buyers than ever before, and connect them to the distinguished presentation of resources available here. Rather than distracting them with the glitz and fanfare that used to be more pervasive in the industry, 7 W New York is making a concerted effort to support these serious buyers with innovative, “out-of-the-box” product, and help them have productive meetings while visiting – all with the goal of supporting its tenants long-term. “Buyers today are much more focused,” says Chris Collins, vice-president and general manager. They want to do their jobs in a comfortable, productive atmosphere and move on.” Collins expects these efforts to result in stronger buying activity for 2012.

Located in one of the most desirable locations in Manhat-tan, 7 W New York® features a collection of fi ne show-

rooms that have been selected to offer retailers product that is unique, design-driven and exclusive. A variety of categories are represented, including home décor, tabletop, giftware, tex-tiles, decorative accessories, displays and more, in 450,000 square feet of space.

NEW FOR 2012Q) How are you helping to ensure that a visit to 7 W New York will be productive?A) “We are working with individual tenants to under-stand their strategies and do what we can to help them attract the right buyers. This might mean giving them extra display space, supporting them with an e-blast program or utilizing social media in new and exciting ways. With a high occupancy rate and the

majority of our tenants in long-term leases, we are committed to supporting our very stable tenant base,” says Collins. “To have a showroom in New York City is an expen-sive endeavor; those that are here need to get every dollar out of the rent that they pay. Companies need to answer that call with unique, high design collections that make buyers want to come here,” he concludes.

In just its second year, GIFT + HOME at Las Vegas Market continues to be the fastest growing category at World Market Center Las Vegas, and is quickly

becoming the dominant show in the Western U.S. Now owned by International Market Centers, Gift + Home at Las Vegas Market features hundreds of permanent showrooms, including many West Coast exclu-sives such as OneCoast, Demdaco, Midwest-CBK, Evergreen Enterprises, K&K Interiors, just to name a few, as well as a full fl oor of Gift + Home Temporaries in Building C. In short, Las Vegas provides more to explore. Riding great momentum following a strong Summer 2011 show that saw substantial increases in buyer attendance, as well as growth in the number of both permanent and new-to-market exhibitors, GIFT + HOME at Las Vegas Market has made its mark as a vibrant, thriving marketplace. This Winter, the GIFT + HOME temporaries on C5 will debut a new, dynamic fl oor plan and category neighborhoods. Due to overwhelming interest and growth, the glass walls have been removed to increase exhibit space by 20 percent. In addition, this show boasts outstanding travel options including hotel rates starting at $39 a night and complimentary shuttle service to and from market. With its convenient state-of-the-art campus, a dedicated Gift + Home Buyer’s Lounge, fresh new exhibitor resources, free parking and Wi-Fi, education and networking opportunities, and exceptional on-site amenities, GIFT + HOME at Las Vegas Market has become a prominent “must-see” venue for today’s savvy gift show buyers.

Q) The Las Vegas market has great momentum going into the 2012 show season. What do you attribute that to?A) “Despite continued economic challenges, we are pleased to have held our strongest, best-attended Summer Market in three years,” says Robert Maricich, CEO of the International Market Center, parent company of World Mar-ket Center Las Vegas. “Our growth in new gift and home resources at that market, coupled with compelling events, plus the number of new products and specials we’re seeing throughout the showrooms has enhanced the value proposition for gift buyers to attend,” he adds. In particular, gift and decorative accessory retailers showed up in droves with a 35 per-cent increase at the August show over 2010 numbers. Among these stores, the fastest growing distribution channels in attendance were department stores, chain stores, hospital gift shops, bookstores, drug stores, apparel shops, seasonal/fl oral and specialty retailers. “Our campus is designed to offer a more effi cient buying experience,” Maricich adds, “and the city of Las Vegas provides both world-class excitement and affordable value. Together with our partners and exhibiting companies, we are delivering on our objective to create the most dynamic event for the gift industry west of the Mississippi.”

Planning for our renowned show themes – such as Western, Home for the Holidays, Civil War Com-memoration or the 75th anniversary of the dedication of Great Smoky Mountains National Park - begins months in advance. Added features such as an El-vis impersonator, Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus and mu-sic by highly touted dulcimer and banjo artists give our visitors something to smile about and remember, while educational seminars from World Ventures pro-vide economic opportunities. The principles of accessibility and hospitality have been a winning formula that has served us – and our participants – well throughout the last 25 years.”

The Norton Shows exude the charm and hospitality of a wholesale market fre-quented by exhibitors and buyers who are now family and friends. Held four

times annually, the shows combine the buying needs of some 10,000 to 21,000 visitors seeking to stock their retail stores, set against the backdrop of the Great Smoky Mountains. The Norton Shows are held at the Gatlinburg Convention Center four times a year. Their two events - the Gatlinburg Apparel & Jewelry Market LLC and the Norton’s Gatlinburg Gift & Variety Show LLC, while offering ladies’, men’s and children’s apparel, fashion jewelry/accessories, fi ne jewelry, estate, Native American and a plethora of gifts from around the world, including spa, fl oral, medicinal and gour-met, provide a complete package of fun-fi lled themed events, local entertainment, educational seminars and strong buying opportunities to the thousands of visitors who attend these “all seasons” cash and carry wholesale markets each year. Nev-ertheless, the emphasis is on exhibitors selling merchandise and the wholesale buyers stocking shelves and racks. Unlike many wholesale markets, there are no minimum order requirements. Buyers purchase in the amounts they need and can afford, conducting business in a manner comfortable for them. With 500 - 700 exhibition booths, The Norton Shows – now in their 25th year - attract thousands of buyers from 26 states as well as Canada and the Caribbean.

Since 1996, the Mississippi Market has been helping home

state businesses achieve success. Sponsored by the Mississippi

Development Authority, the market is designed to help budding

proprietors introduce their products, and increase business and sales

for all participating vendors. Last year, 136 vendors exhibited with

total show sales of more than $750,000 – an impressive increase of

almost $100,000 from the 2010 show.

With some 30 to 40 percent of the exhibitors brand new each

year, the Mississippi Market attracts more than 800 retail buyers

representing seven states. Seminars, door prizes, and free lunch,

popcorn, lemonade, sweet tea and ice cream await visitors.

Q) Why should Southeast retailers attend this show?A) “The Mississippi Market is the most cost-effective market of the year, with a two-day centrally located event that’s economi-cal to travel budgets and time,” says Elizabeth Taylor of the

MDA. “As the only state-sponsored event of its kind, the show’s distinction is its assemblage of homegrown Mississippi artisans and businesses representing the categories of gift, gourmet, pottery, jewelry, tabletop and more.”

Refl ecting its commitment to serve the entire industry, the Craft & Hobby Association’s 71st Conference

& Trade Show at the Anaheim Convention Center will feature non-member exhibitors for the fi rst time. This will enable more people to participate in and experience the craft and hobby community fi rst-hand and attend the industry’s premier event of the year. CHA offers industry-leading education to its members to empower decision-making and inspiration-cause marketing programs. Providing diverse and timely educational sessions through its Conference program, CHA is focused on giving members the tools they need to increase success and support the Power of Creative Community. These sessions offer unmatched opportuni-ties for the crafting community to develop new skills, gain knowledge and share best practices and les-sons learned with other attendees through workshops, seminars, demo-nars and special events. The U.S. craft and hobby industry represents $29 billion in retail sales of products worldwide.

The Winter 2012 Show will debut new features including a new experts program, a matchmaking program and an appointment-scheduling tool. The show will utilize the latest technology to support a new exhibitor invitation program inviting the right buyers with easy-use smart phone applications.Q) What is the goal of CHA’s new inclusion policy?A) “A challenging economy and increasing competition both domestically and internationally have caused many organizations to pull back and focus on their core business function,” says Tony Lee, acting president and CEO of CHA. “The risk in this mindset is the missed opportunities to open and diver-sify the craft industry. By focusing on inclusion, CHA believes we can share the benefi ts of the show with the broader crafting community and as a result, the entire industry, CHA and our members will all benefi t.”
