Survey write-up

To help with my market research I gave out a questionnaire to ten people and got them to answer it

honestly and by themselves. The results i found were interesting as they showed that a lot less

people than i thought don’t read music magazines. This was bad for my survey as it means that i

have surveyed people who would not be likely to buy my magazine. The survey did help as it showed

that the most popular genre is dubstep with dance and indie music also being popular. This helped

me decide what type of magazine to do.

This graph shows that there is a 50/50 split between people who read music magazines and those

who don’t. This means that although I won’t have a majority of my survey buying my magazine i will

have half of it. For my magazine i will make sure that it appeals to various audiences so that more

people may be convinced to buy it.

This graph shows that the most popular genres of music in my survey is dubstep with 15% of people

saying that it is one of their favourite genre’s. The least popular genres in my survey were Classical

and Jazz music; this means that I would have a bigger audience reading a dubstep magazine then

jazz and classical. I will most probably do a dubstep magazine with an established dubstep artist on

my front cover; this will mean that audiences will buy it as they recognise the artist on the cover.

This chart shows that less people are likely to buy music magazines fortnightly or every few months.

It also shows that a lot of people who answered my survey rarely or never buy music magazines. This

means that i will have to try and target a lot of people who don’t usually buy music magazines. 20%

of people said that they buy music magazines either monthly or weekly so i would probably make

my magazine a monthly magazine as more people would be likely to remember to buy it and

become monthly buyers

This graph shows that the majority of the people in my survey are students with the percentage of

unemployed matching the percentage of employed. This means that i would have to price my

magazine lower than i maybe would’ve originally thought as audiences may not be able to afford a

higher price or may just choose now to pay it.
