Tax collectors and sinners are emphasized, it was an affront to them, why would He do it? 25. If you are self righteous, or religious righteous you cannot come to Christ; John 6:44 "No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him Only sinners can be called/saved. The teaching that somehow you must stop sinning before you can be saved is wrong. To stop sinning or turn from your sin is a result of salvation, not a prerequisite. The only prerequisite is to be a called sinner. 26. Mark 2:17, Sinners Psalm 51:13, 1:1, How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers! Who or what is He talking about? Mark 2:16 When the scribes of the Pharisees saw Then Jesus brought up the crucifixion. Religious legalistic Judaism is the un-stretchable cloth and old wineskin. 31. Mark 2:22, Wine Matthew 9:17 "Nor do people put new wine [oinos] into old wineskins; otherwise the wineskins burst, and the wine [oinos] pours out and the wineskins are ruined; but they put new wine [oinos] into fresh wineskins, and both are preserved. oinos Meaning: wine Origin: a prim. word Usage: wine(33), wine*(1). [oinos] used 4Xs in Mark 2:22, 3Xs in Luke 5:37-38 Luke 7:33 "For John the Baptist has come eating no bread and drinking no wine [oinos] , and you say, 'He has a demon! 34 "The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, 'Behold, a gluttonous man and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners! Mark 2:25, The Consecrated Bread Mark 2:25 And He said to them, "Have you never read what David did when he was in need and he and his companions became hungry; 26 how he entered the house of God in the time of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the consecrated bread, which is not lawful for anyone to eat except the priests, and he also gave it to those who were with him? 1 Samuel 21:1-9 Jesus didnt plead innocence because of Deuteronomy 23:25, that would only have only taught about eating, instead, He goes to the root of the problem, their legalism about the law, distorts the intent of the law. The law was to bless the people, not hurt them. It had a provision for the hungry, and destitute. 38. Mark 2:27 Mark 2:27 Jesus said to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. 39. Ezekiel 20:12 "Also I gave them My sabbaths to be a sign between Me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD who sanctifies them. 40. Mark 2:28, Sabbath Mark 2:28 "So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath." The captain of the LORD'S host commanded 7 times as much work to be done on the Sabbath.
