OCTOBER

THE WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON KNITTING CLUB

The Wednesday Afternoon Knitting Club ladies have all come back from their holidays and are busy working on their next patterns.

The Fall bazaar will be coming up November 30th so our objective to get as many items ready for then.

Some of our more experienced knitters have excelled themselves so make a note to come and see what we have.

Two contributors to our supply cabinets are Betsy and Dawn. It is quite a treat to receive these supplies and wonder what the yarn can be turned into.

We would appreciate any supplies you might want to clean out. Our group is expanding weekly and more yarn is needed to keep everybody busy. Remember to check the cabinet in the lobby for seasonal changes. That should be happening in the next few weeks.

Enjoy the weather and the change in the trees: it has started already and if you have time don't for-get to visit the Markham Fair.

A bookseller conducting a market survey asked a woman – “Which book has helped you most in your life?” The woman replied – “My husband’s cheque book !!” A prospective husband in a book store “Do you have a book called, ‘Husband – the Master of the House’? Sales Girl : “Sir, Fiction and Comics are on the 1st floor!”. Someone asked an old man : “Even after 70 years, you still call your wife – Darling, Honey, Luv. What’s the secret ? Old man : I forgot her name and I’m scared to ask her. Wife : I wish I was a newspaper. So I’d be in your hands all day. Husband : I too wish that you were a newspaper. So I could have a new one every day ! Husband to wife – Today is a fine day. Next day he says : Today is a fine day. Again next day, he says same thing – Today is a fine day. Finally after a week, the wife can’t take it and asks her husband – since last one week, you are saying this “Today is a fine day’. I am fed up. What’s the matter? Husband : Last week when we had an argument, you said, “I will leave you one fine day.” I was just trying to remind you……"

East Activity Room

Come play and put your mind to work!

Ray and Bob, two government maintenance guys, were standing at the base of a flagpole looking up. A woman walked by and asked what they were doing. Bob said, “We’re supposed to find the height of the flagpole but we don’t have a ladder”.

The woman said, “Hand me that wrench out of your toolbox”, she loosened a few bolts and then laid the pole down. She then took a tape measure from their toolbox and proceeded to measure the pole. She said, “Eighteen feet, six inches” and then walked away.

Ray shook his head and laughed, “Well ain’t that just like a miss-know-it-all woman”, he said, “We need the height, and she give us the length”, Ray and Bob are still working for the government, but now the’re Congressmen.

Did you know about the O.A.I.A. website?

The News & Views and other timely information about happenings at the club

are available for viewing at your convenience at the OAIA web-

site www.markhamseniorcentre.com.

In addition to News & Views, you will find program schedules and activity

lists, photos of outings and events, the slide show that runs on the big screen

in the lobby and much more.

We do print a limited number of copies of News & Views for the conven-

ience of folks without internet access but our hope is that most of you will

view it online. There are several good reasons to do so:

• it’s posted to the website at the same time it goes to the printer so you

can read it sooner.

• it’s in vivid colour.

• back copies from the past year are also there for reference.

• most importantly, you will be helping the environment.

If we can further reduce the number of copies of the newsletter that we print,

not only will we be helping the environment, but we can lower our printing

expense.

If you have internet access at home but are not already familiar with the

website, please have a look... you might want to bookmark it for easy

access.

THE YEAR WAS 1955..(if I hadn’t lived through it, I wouldn't believe it myself)

Did you hear the post office is thinking about charging 7 cents just to

If they raise the minimum wage to $1.00. Nobody will be able to hire outside help at

the store.

When I first started driving, who would have thought gas would someday

cost 25 cents a gallon? Guess we’d be better off leaving the

car in the garage.

Did you see where some baseball player just signed a contract for $50,000 a

year just to play ball? It wouldn’t surprise me If someday they’ll be making

more than the President.

I never thought I’d see the day all our kitchen appliances would be electric.

They're even making electric typewriters now.

It’s too bad things are so tough nowadays. I see where a

few married women are having to work to make ends meet.

It won’t be long before young couples are going to have to hire someone to watch

their kids so they can both work.

I’m afraid the Volkswagen car is going to open the door to

a whole lot of foreign business.

Thank goodness I won’t live to see the day when the government takes half

our income in taxes. I sometimes wonder if we are electing the best people

to government.

The fast food restaurant is convenient for a quick meal, but I seriously

doubt they will ever catch on.

There is no sense going on short trips any more for a weekend.

It costs nearly $2.00 a night to stay in a hotel.

No one can afford to be sick anymore At $15.00 a day in the hospital, it's too rich for my blood.

If they think I'll pay 30 cents for a haircut, Forget it.
