Commandant’s Corner
Having been absent at our last meeting I will attempt to make this report fairly short, so as to
avoid covering too much that has already been taken care of. We are in the neighborhood of spring,
and the rising temperatures bring on the rising of our level of activity. A quick list of bullets for the
upcoming months:
I will have a tentative contact list for the membership to be passed around the room, so that
we can all update/correct our information, in order to operate more efficiently.
The filling of two officer positions within our Detachment must happen as soon as possible
(Junior Vice Commandant and Adjutant). I have not been informed of any names that may
have been discussed at the last meeting, so if we still need them, we will take care of it.
Finally, I would like to discuss the idea of changing our monthly meeting time and/or day of
the week, in order to accommodate as many members’ attendance at meetings as
possible. To have a planned meeting time that contributes to low attendance seems
counterproductive, so if we can come up with a change for the better than so be it.
Upcoming events:
Memorial Day- We have been doing the Color Guard for the ceremony at Linwood
Cemetery (near Interlochen) for several years, and will again this year. We can be
represented at other Memorial Day events, if somebody can make the time to be there. We
are committed however, to Linwood.
Flag distribution for Flag Day. Date will be forth coming, but it is always a great fundraiser.
Fourth of July/ Cherry Festival Parade. Any participation is a great way to get us in the
public eye.
That is all that I have for now (maybe it wasn’t that short). Please, everyone think “spring” really hard,
just as a personal favor. I will do my humble best at getting this report out in a more timely fashion in
the future. Special thanks go to Gunny Gene Dixon for his tireless work on our website, and to Maura
Sanders for her dedication to getting the newsletter out (and to both for lighting a fire under me when
I have yet to send them a report). We hope to receive the benefit of the presence of any members
that can attend our next meeting at Camp Buday on Wednesday 11 March 2015.
