WITH AERZEN YOU CONTROL THE SHIP.On the basis of AERZEN compressors and blowers modern auxiliary systems for manoeuvring

and stabilising ships and keeping them free from ice can be realised. Beyond the use on yachts,

thrusters prevail also for larger ships and the air lubrication of the ship’s hull promises further

energy savings in maritime shipping business in future. Anti-Heeling systems tailored for

the ship dynamically arrange for an always smooth and stable position in the water. Another

important process air application is wastewater treatment plants for large passenger ships.

Anti-heeling and Duck Walk. For the stabilisation of ships in the water, nowadays, bespo-ke product solutions made by AERZEN are used for the Anti-heeling systems. Via a piping system water in the ballast water tank of the ship is pressed from one side of the ship to the other by means of a precisely dimensioned blower. Depending on the present position of the ship, the unit controls via air valves to which side of the ship the water is pressed. These can change the air flow in less than one second.

In a calm situation at any time.Anti-heeling-Systems with blowers are considerably more eco-nomical and energy saving than those with pumps. Floating hotels, cargo ships, tankers or cable ships lie more steady in mo-ving water and stay stable even during loading and unloading. If you use the Anti-heeling unit reversed it comes to a “Duck Walk”, a slight swaying which serves for keeping the icebreakers free from ice. For example on the ‘Polarstern’, the currently big-gest and most modern German research vessel.

Navigating by saving energy.Modern ship concepts consider energy aspects from the start. Air lubrication is particularly interesting for cargo ships. Oil-free compressed air, which can e.g. be generated by an AER-ZEN Delta Blower or Delta Hybrid, flows out of numerous nozz-les under the ship’s hull and forms an air curtain between the skin of the ship and the ambient seawater. Friction and fuel consumption are reduced. Thrusters or rudders are operated with oil-free compressed air. Starting from yachts, nowadays they are also used on large ships.

Water treatment at sea.The days when waste water of a ship was simply dumped at sea are over. Large passenger ships and cruise ships cannot store the wastewater volumes of thousands of passengers un-til they reach the next harbour. A wastewater treatment plant with machines made by AERZEN provides remedy. We gathe-red experience for decades with the conception and equipment of wastewater treatment plants of all sizes worldwide.

This also applies for mobile plants on ships. The heart of the plants is our Delta Blower and Delta Hybrid packaged units, supplying the aeration tank of the aerobic sewage water cleaning with air. Afterwards, the wastewater gets into a settling tank where solids are separated. Then, the purified water is sterilised before it is discharged into the waters.

AT AERZEN YOUR PROCESS GASES ARE IN GOOD HANDS.

Good for the environment. Good for the costs. When loading and unloading tankships with crude oil, volati-le organic hydrocarbons (VOCs) are released into the atmos-phere. They not only represent an unused energy potential but also increase the greenhouse effect. Furthermore they contribute to the generation of ground-level ozone and other photochemical reaction products. By means of a VOC recovery unit aboard, these substances can be liquefied again and fed to the crude oil cargo. Screw compressor packages made by AERZEN particularly developed for this process help to redu-ce the greenhouse effect.

VOC units with AERZEN technology are used successfully on many tankships.

During the transport of liquid gas (LNG) on tankships, due to the gradual warming of the cold liquid gas so-called Boil-off gas evaporates. While, in former times, this gas was blown off into the atmosphere, nowadays, for reasons of environ-mental protection it is recompressed with the help of units made by AERZEN and led back to the process.

Our experts for special applications. There are hardly any limits to the possible applications of AERZEN positive displacement blowers, rotary lobe com-pressors and screw compressors. Mainly in the luxury seg-ment of yacht building the long forgotten air injection to the ship’s propeller experiences a renaissance. So, screw noise is eliminated to the largest possible extent and cavi-tation is avoided. The result: smooth drive and longer ser-vice life. Air curtain systems for impact pile driving for wind power station foundations are a similar application. A ring of air bubbles installed around the site protects the marine life from harmful sound influences. Furthermore, AERZEN al-ready installed positive displacement blowers on surveying ships and research ships for seismic survey of the sea floor.

No matter, whether combustible or not, the AERZEN experts know how to treat process gases. Our

screw compressors are used in plants for Boil-Off gas compression on LNG carriers, same as for

the recovery of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC).

Nitrogen compression for the use as inert and flushing gas or for Blanketing is a typical application

for our Delta Blower positive displacement blowers. AERZEN compressors can be found also in

AERZEN MOVES BULKS WITH PRESSURISED AIR AND VACUUM.

Pneumatic conveying of bulk materials.Whether vacuum conveying or positive pressure conveying is used depends on the conveying material and the deployment scenario. AERZEN has long-term experience with both proce-dures and already supplied pneumatic systems for ships, port facilities and factories. The largest machines are installed in lifting systems and unload transport ships with an hourly ca-pacity of up to 1,000 tons. Mobile unloading vehicles ( e.g. silo trucks), which are driven to the individual locations in the harbour, are equipped with AERZEN products. AERZEN oil-free compressing positive displacement blowers, rotary lobe compressors and screw compressors are the solution for all these transportation tasks providing highest efficiency and reliability.

Economical compressed air generation.Semi-submersible ships are used for lifting ships out of the water, working on the hull or to salvage a non-seaworthy vessel. The hoisting of the hull is carried out by feeding com-pressed air into the ballast tanks. Water is pressed out of the tank. Due to this generated lift the hull is hoisted.

If compressed air with higher pressures is needed, a compres-sor stage of the downstream piston compressor can be omit-ted thanks to a compressor supercharging by AERZEN Delta Blower or AERZEN Delta Screw. Thus, the investment costs for the entire plant are decreased significantly.

Pneumatics plays an important role in loading and unloading bulk materials. AERZEN blowers and

compressors generate overpressure and vacuum for this purpose. Even big individual loads can

be lifted easily thanks to pressurised air, e. g. with semi-submersible heavy lift ships. If higher

pressures are required, as for example for pressurised air, AERZEN blowers and compressors

provide the accurate elevated intake pressure.
