\ Marina Port La RoyaleEn plein cœur de Marigot, la marina PortLa Royale accueille les bateaux de sociétés de location et quelques voiliers de passage. \ Marina Captain Oliver’sLa marina du Captain Oliver’s est un petit monde à elle toute seule. Située à Oyster Pond, la marina a la particularité d’être à la fois en zone française et hollandaise, les mouillages, le dock et le restaurant se trouvant du côté hollandais de l’île, les boutiques et l’hôtel du côté français. Un endroit paisible à découvrir.

\ Marigot1. L’obélisque de la frontièreErigé en 1948 pour fêter les 300 ans du Traité de Concordia établissant le partage de l’île entre la France et la Hollande, c’est l’un des monuments les plus photographié de l’île. C’est un des seuls signes visibles qui rappelle qu’il existe une frontière entre les deux pays.

2. Le Fort LouisConstruit en 1789 par la population de Marigot, le Fort Louis compte parmi les sites incontournables de l’île ! Ce lieu chargé d’histoire offre une vue impre-nable sur Marigot, le lagon de Simpson Bay, les Terres Basses et la Baie Nettlé.

3. Le marché de MarigotCouleurs, senteurs et convivialité sont autant de termes qui qualifi ent le marché de Marigot ! Les commerçants proposent aussi bien des fruits et légumes locaux, des épices et poissons pêchés du jour que de nombreux stands d’artisanat local. Ambiance « friendly(1)» garantie !

\ Grand Case4. La gastronomieLe village de Grand Case, haut lieu de la gastronomie caribéenne, regorge de restaurants aux cuisines aussi variées qu’exotiques. Et pour des saveurs typiquement saint-martinoises, rendez-vous dans les « lolos », ces petits restau-rants traditionnels…

5. Le Rocher CréoleFace à la Baie de Grand Case, dans la Réserve Naturelle Nationale, le Rocher Créole est le rendez-vous privilégié des pélicans et des fous bruns comme des amateurs de plongée.

6. Le Moulin à SelA Grand Case, près du quai, se trouve une ancienne meule à sel datant de l’époque de l’exploitation des salines. Une pièce historique dans la culture saint-martinoise.

\ Philipsburg7. The Courthouse(2)

Situé en plein cœur de Philipsburg, « The Courthouse » est l’un des monuments les plus célèbres de la partie hollandaise de Saint-Martin. Construit en 1793 et restauré à plusieurs reprises, le palais de justice fi gure sur la liste des monuments historiques majeurs.

8. Le MuséeA travers une exposition d’artisanat local, de photos anciennes et d’objets du passé, le Musée de Philipsburg retrace les grandes périodes de l’histoire de Sint-Maarten, des Arawaks à nos jours.

9. L’Église methodistede Philipsburg L’église méthodiste construite en bois est un bel exemple des églises caribéenne. Entièrement reconstruite en 1979, elle est en tout point identique à l’église d’origine, bien que ses murs soient en béton et recouverts de bois. Un monument phare de Philipsburg.

\ Marigot1. The Obelisk marking the BorderBuilt in 1948 to commemorate the 300 years of the Treaty of Concordia upon which France and Holland agree to split the island, it is one of the most photo-graphed monument in Saint-Martin. It is also one of the only signs reminding that there is a border between the two sovereign nations.

3. Marigot marketMarigot market is a colourful, scent-fi lled, friendly place! Stall-holders sell local fruit and vegetables, spices, fi sh caught that very day and there are many stands selling local craftwork. A friendly atmosphere guaranteed!

\ Grand Case4. The gastronomyThe village of Grand Case, the gourmet capital of the Caribbean, has an abundance of restaurants offering a wide variety of exotic cuisine. To get a taste of typical Saint-Martin fl avours, drop into those small traditional restaurants called “lolos”.

5. The Creole rockIn the Grand Case Bay the Rocher Créole is a favourite meeting place for pelicans, brown booby and diving enthusiasts. This unique area on the island is part of the National Nature Reserve.

6. The Moulin à Sel (salt press)Near the quay in Grand Case, there is an old salt press dating back to the time when the salt industry was in operation. It is part of Saint-Martin’s history and cultural heritage.

\ Philipsburg7. The CourthouseLocated right in the heart of Philipsburg, The Courthouse is one of the most famous monuments in the Dutch part of Saint-Martin. Built in 1793 and restored several times, the Courthouse is an historical monument of major importance.

8. The MuseumVia an exhibition of local craftwork, old photos and objects from the past, the Museum of Philipsburg retraces the main periods of Sint-Maarten’s history, from the Arawaks to the present-day.

9. Philipsburg Methodist Church The Methodist Church is a fi ne example of a wooden Caribbean church. Completely rebuilt in 1979, it is identical to the original church, although its walls are made of concrete covered with wood. It is one of Philipsburg’s foremost monuments.

\ l’usine à sel de Sucker GardenDans le quartier populaire de Sucker Garden reposent les ruines d’une usine à sel construite au milieu du XIXème siècle. Érigée par une compagnie franco-hollandaise, cette usine expéri-mentale permettait de récolter le sel plus rapidement grâce à l’énergie du débit d’un cours d’eau.

\ Sucker Garden Salt FactoryIn Sucker Garden rest the ruins of a salt factory built in the middle of the 19th century. This experimental factory was erected by a Franco-Dutch company and enabled salt farmers to harvest salt more quickly thanks to the power of a river fl ow.
