ACM Brings World-Class Construction Technologies to Homes: A First in the PhilippinesNow on its 26th year, ACM is committed to deliver homes better and faster with the arrival and combination of two new technologies, the Slab Master system and the Alform system. The Slab Master system is introduced by Steel Foundations Philippines (SFP), one of the country’s most reliable construction companies known for their high quality materials, innovative screw pile systems and novel designs which are also being used in Australia. Its foundation system uses screw piles instead of conventional reinforced concrete, drastically reducing the construction period for a house.

Alform System (“Alforms”), on the other hand, is a rapidly growing construction company in Malaysia as well as the rest of Southeast Asia. Alforms is here with their high quality and accurately engineered Aluminum Formwork system. This material-saving, low-carbon system replaces conventional concrete hollow block walls and can be installed faster and more efficiently. ACM Homes will be the first in the Philippines to combine these two highly reputable systems for their new residential project, Richwood Townhomes in Brgy. Navarro in General Trias, Cavite. With this new residential construction technology in place, ACM is expecting to construct a minimum of 50 units per month compared to the conventional method output of 5 units per month.

PTC GMPs Rescue Australian SailorsPTC commends the officers and crew of IVS Phinda, a general cargo vessel of Grindrod Shipping, for the successful rescue of two Australian sailors from their stricken yacht in the Timor Sea last July 23, 2018. The sailors were travelling to Australia from Indonesia onboard their yacht, the Jepeda IV, when they lost their mast in rough weather. They activated their distress beacon at 11:30 pm of July 22 which was picked up by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA). Their request for assistance was then immediately broadcasted by AMSA to all ships in the area.

IVS Phinda, headed by Capt. George Sarmiento, swiftly responded to AMSA’s broadcast and diverted her course towards the stricken yacht’s location overnight. They were finally able to rescue the sailors shortly after first light on the morning of July 23. AMSA’s Manager of Search and Rescue, Alan Lloyd, said the rescue was in the true spirit of seamanship. “The sea can be a dangerous place and it’s reassuring to know that help is always at hand,” Mr. Lloyd said. “We commend the crew of the IVS Phinda for their efforts.”

In a letter written to Grindrod Shipping, Harry and Erica Nicholson, the rescued sailors, expressed their gratitude to the company and IVS Phinda for their invaluable assistance during their ordeal. “Thank you for allowing IVS Phinda to divert from her commercial course to come to our rescue. We are very conscious of the huge costs involved in such an action, probably far more than the value of the yacht we lost.” “We also wish to record our impressions of the extraordinary Captain and crew of IVS Phinda. They carried out the rescue operation in very difficult circumstances. The concern your crew showed to determine that we were well and not injured was amazing. They took us by the arms and led us to a seat to get our breath back and to check that we were okay. Words cannot effectively express our appreciation of and admiration for their efforts. We marvel at the help and courtesies delivered to us by all members of your crew. You can be justifiably proud of the team you have on this fine ship.”
