An Easter Thought
This Easter let us remember that is was ultimately love that triumphed over hate. Despite the work of evil to destroy all that
is good, it did not win. Christ, the most holy was desecrated, the inviolate was violated. The most loving was outraged. All
the evil and hatred and violence and cruelty that have tormented the world from the beginning were focussed here, too.
Instead, goodness and beauty and love won out. Take some time to gaze at the crucifixion and let it touch you. Then we
can follow Jesus to his resurrection and find hope and power to work for change.
Let us also remember that in our broader community there also is a lot of loving kindness around; there is a lot of silent,
courageous heroism; there is a lot of simple, sincere goodness and holiness. People are being hurt; but many are being
loved into health; many grieving hearts are being consoled. Many hearts are celebrating the joys and memories of their
lives. So “just as sin reigned wherever there was death, so grace will reign to bring eternal life.”(Rom 5:21). God is alive
and well; and at work. We need to remind ourselves of that.
Lord, My heart will be buoyed up and I’ll be the sacrament of your presence if I keep in mind the good things you
are doing. Lift up my heart so I choose to direct my attention to all that is alive and growing in the people around
me. May your Easter joy be something that radiates out from me. Amen
Dear Parents, Students and Friends
The term has now ended and many of us here at Marian and probably yourselves at home, have been amazed at how
quickly the time has flown by! There has been so much to be thankful for as staff and students have applied themselves to
the tasks of learning and living well. I thank everyone for their energy and enthusiasm they bring each day. Marian is a
happy place where our motto of The Way, The Truth and The Life is at our forefront in all we do. I pray that the Risen
Lord, renews your faith and it is seen in all you do each day. May you enjoy the time available to you in the break with
family and friends. Term 2 commences for everyone on Monday 28 April. Full winter uniform is to be worn.
At the Griffith Festival, La Festa a group of Marian Catholic College dancers will be performing on the Community
Stage. This dedicated group of dancers have had their skills fine tuned by ex student George Vito. George is studying
dance in Melbourne and was keen to get a group from his former school to perform. Our sincere thanks to George and this
has totally been his initiative and by sharing his gifts with others it is clear to see that he has learnt the College values well
and taken them to heart.
ANZAC Day 2014 As is customary, all students are invited to represent the College at the
ANZAC March on April 25. Students are to wear full winter uniform with blazers. Our Year 7
students will not have their blazers, so I ask them to wear the winter uniform with either their
track suit top and/or a college jumper. Obviously, weather will determine how many layers will be
required. Each year Marian has a large turn out and I am hoping for a similar number or bigger
this year. Students will have their participation recorded as Community Service. The Pastoral
Coordinators will be collecting names. The Griffith ANZAC Committee have also approached Mr
Holloway and Mr Herb as they are looking for student volunteers to help place flowers and
crosses on the graves of returned servicemen and women at the Griffith cemetery. Students who
wish to participate in this community service are asked to leave their names with Mr Herb. Marian
will be holding an ANZAC Assembly upon return to school next term.
The Marian Cross Country was unfortunately washed out and will now take place on Friday May 2.
Peace and Best Wishes

Religious Education
Wow what a busy term in Religious Education we have had so far! We
have had many opportunities for faith formation including Our College
Opening Mass, Ash Wednesday Service, Year 12 Retreat, Year 8 and 10
Reconciliation, and our upcoming Easter Liturgy which will be led by our
Year 10 students. Thank you to the students for their enthusiasm,
professionalism and reverence when involved in these special and
traditional aspects of our Marian Catholic College Community. In the
curriculum side of RE the students have been able to express their
creativity and knowledge through diverse range of assessment tasks and in
class activities. Year 9 Students have been decorating crosses for St Patrick’s School students (see photo)
and have completed a picture book on the story of The Last Supper and The Holy Communion. Next term
we endeavour to travel to St Patricks to read these creative and well-presented books to the students in St
Patrick’s School who are preparing for their Holy Communion. These activities express the link between
Marian Catholic College and St Patricks where we would like to endeavour continue to bridge the Catholic
schools together with faith formation activities.
We look forward to Term 2, which is again shaping up to be a busy term for RE, the students will be involved in many activities including; attending talks by visiting Missionary Priest and Vianney College, Year 7 and 9 Reconciliation, Marian Day celebrations where we will continue our journey with the students in faith formation and Religious Education.
Now on another note, due to my family commitments and responsibilities, it is
with sadness that I leave the Religious Education Coordinator role. A big thank you
to all of the Religious Education Staff members on their support and hard work
that has been invaluable in the running of the Religious Education Department the
past two years. Thank you to Sarah Keane and Bernie Maginnity for all of the
wonderful work they have done preparing and organising the students for the
student run liturgies and all of the school masses and liturgies for the past two
years. Thank you also to Fr. Neru, who has been a pleasure to work with, for his
ongoing connection with our College and continuing the faith formation for our
students. Laura Vardanega will be taking the role of REC for the remainder of 2014,
I will be staying on as a classroom teacher, so I'll still be here to contact and I will
still be a part of the RE and Arts faculty teams at Marian Catholic College.
Best wishes and Happy Easter

SPORTS NEWS
Touch
Tuesday 25th March Marian participated in the Diocesan Touch competition in Wagga.
Girls Touch
The Junior Girls were the most successful Marian team with two convincing wins and two narrow loses, pushing the
opposing teams to their limits. They played with great enthusiam, with the Zanatta twins showing strong form in the
centre of the pitch, Susanne Rinaldo holding her own in a higher age division and Jaclyn Agostini captaining the team
from the front. Tahlia Vecchio’s outstanding performance earned her selection in the Diocesan squad to play in the
NSW CCC competition.
Unfortunately, the Senior Girls were not as successful as the junior girls losing most of their games, all be it narrowly.
Jen Davidson had an outstanding tournament and was also selected in the Senior Girls’ Diocesan squad to play NSW
CCC. Tara Searl, Lauryn Harper and Maddie Aird impressed the judges with their outstanding skills.
Boys Touch
The Junior Boys played well closely losing 3 games and drawing the fourth. Dylan Bordignon was very unlucky not to be
selected for rep duties, setting up play after play and dominating at dummy half. Jordan Bellato and Jake Villata also
played well.
Unfortunately, the Senior Boys’ team was decimated with injury and students being away. The boys played extremely
well but unfortunately the small amount of time to train together cost us dearly. Jayden Richens, William Kennedy and
Jacob Seers all played brilliantly intercepting passes, scoring length of the field tries and stopping opposing teams dead
in their tracks.
All coaches Ms Amaro, Ms Thorpe, Mr Holloway and Mr Morris would like to thank all students for their impeccable behaviour. In what, was a long, hot tiring day.

Netbooks As part of receiving a Netbook, students were advised of the need to bring it fully charged to the College every day. Students are also reminded that they are to be carried around in their supplied bag for protection of the Netbook. This is to limit any damage that may occur to the Netbook and to keep repair costs to a minimum for families if something does happen. Can parents please remind their child to make sure the Netbook is fully charged and that it is being transported in the supplied bag; not left at home or in their locker. Netbooks are NOT to be carried around like a book in their arms. Chargers are to be kept at home and not used in the classroom. Using them in the classroom creates a trip hazard and is a breach of Work, Health & Safety (WHS). If students are experiencing issues with charging their Netbooks, please see the IT department in room C6 to resolve the issue.

Marian’s Easter liturgy
The Easter Liturgy was prepared and presented by the Year 10 Religion classes. The Liturgy was presented in House groups and required the Year 10 students to re-enact the Last Supper and Stations of the Cross. The students lead the prayer and delivered the Gospel engaging the House groups and even included some live music!
The Year 10 students are to be congratulated on their reverent prayer and display of leadership qualities. They worked as a team to deliver this Easter celebration and their efforts paid off! A special thank you goes to each student and the RE teachers, Mrs Lucia Dickie, Mrs Rosanna Cox, Mr Ivan Mason, Mr Barry Le Cornu, and Ms Lara Calabria for supporting their students.
a Thought For Easter These Holidays
We will celebrate Easter these holidays and with that comes the joyous celebration of Jesus’ resurrection. We associate Easter with symbols of new life. However, these symbols can have a Spring time theme like baby chicks, lambs and flowers blooming.
These holidays, consider looking at the changing season of autumn and appreciate what Lent looks, smells and feels like in our world. The changing colours of the trees, falling leaves and the crunch they make underfoot. The smell of fires wafting through the evening air and the waking welcomed sound of rain on the roof.
This is what Lent is to us. When you experience these moments, be grateful.
Enjoy and rejoice this Easter!
