A couple of weeks ago we were sitting around the office boardroom table as a team talking about the 40th Wycliffe South Africa celebration that had taken place on the 17th of September. As we shared what each of us had experienced it became very apparent to us that this had been an event that only God could have orchestrated. It’s true we all worked very hard in our various capacities to help but we could not have done it on our own. It was the best attended event we have ever put on. The venue was amazing and so ideal for people to connect with one another. A number of South African Wycliffe missionaries came back from the countries they were working in for the event which made it so meaningful for us. Many personal supporters and prayer group leaders were there and it was

good to meet up with all the friends and interested people who came. One of the highlights of the evening was having the Maranatha Christian School choir sing some lovely pieces that were very appropriate for the occasion. Our granddaughter Mariah was one of

the singers so that made it special for us. The “Chained Book” theatre cast thrilled us as they reenacted some of the scenes from their previous performance. Derek Fivaz, who had been board chairman for 25 years, gave his farewell message and wove into his talk some stories about the amazing ways God has blessed the organization over the years. Lee Robinson, the pastor of Rosebank Union Church gave a very inspiring message.

You cannot have such an event without good food and the Rosebank Union Church catering staff did a great job creating a lovey decor and providing plenty of delicious finger foods. After the meeting part was over we celebrated with cake and drinks. People did not dash away afterwards and that is always a good sign that the event had served its purpose and was enjoyed. My part was to put together three power point presentations for the display tables and also designed a large poster showing pictures of all our members, honorary members, staff, the outgoing and incoming boards. It also showed how the organization was set up. All the work was worth it and for anyone who would like to see the chart click on the button.

Tibbit Updates

Every opportunity we get we try to take time off from our responsibilities, leave the city and get away for some rest. In the Free State providence nestled in a valley below the Lesotho Mountains is a retro guest farm called “Sunnyside” and that is where we headed to. The same proprietor has been running the guest house for 57 years and very little about the way things are run has changed during that time.

The day starts with tea or coffee on a tray delivered to your thatched cottage door. At eight o’clock the dong is rung for breakfast. Morning tea is served in the garden at 11am and a full course hot lunch at 1 o’clock. Tea again at 4 o’clock and the dong goes at 7pm for another full course meal. The table settings reminded me of growing up in Zambia with the individual starched serviettes, the full settings of cutlery at every meal and moderate portions of food but a number of them. I suppose I could describe the setting as affordable, unrushed finesse. The girls had one complaint, that there was no

Internet without realizing that such a setting would not be possible with such an intrusion. Our second day at the farm we arranged for the girls to go on a two hour horse outride which they thoroughly enjoyed. We also visited another farm that has Bushman paintings and enjoyed the short hike to get to the site. In the evenings, just as the sun was setting we drove through the area called “Th Golden Gate” enjoying the changing colours and images made by the lengthening shadows on the cliffs faces. After our few days away we came home refreshed and ready for normal life. Thank you to each one of you who play such an important role in our lives.
