The Sunflower Classroom was abuzz with many activities in the month of October. The Pumpkin

Farm Trip was much enjoyed by all and children were comparing as to who got the biggest one. We

also celebrated Diwali(Hindu Festival) in the classroom. Our friend Vedika brought in book to read

about it and everybody got to taste some Indian food like paratha ,gulab jamun and laddoo(desserts)

and took home a 'Diya'(oil based clay lamp). International Day was celebrated with equal enthusiasm.

Friends learned about the many cultures around the world. A big thanks to all the families who helped

to make it a grand success. Everybody enjoyed tasting different kinds of food. Children who either

transitioned or joined the school for the first time are now well settled and adjusted into their new envi-

ronment. They observe their surroundings and the way friends are working and get inspired by them.

Practical life: In keeping with the season, children are doing grasping, tweezing, tonging and spooning

work using apple, pumpkin and leaf theme. Some are trying their hands on wet transfer, where they

transfer water using sponge squeezing while others are working on using a whisk.. These works help

them with their motor skills and increase their focus as well.

Language: All the children are working hard and increasing their vocabulary. New learners are working

with conversation cards, vocabulary enrichment cards etc. through which they demonstrate their

comprehension of the language. Some children are working on composition of three letter words using

the moveable alphabets (objects ,pictures). All these works are geared towards helping children to

ultimately read independently.

Math: In math, children are advancing at a very good pace in the classroom. Children already familiar

with the numerical symbols are now working with identifying and matching numbers to quantity with

works such as the spindle box, number step-board and memory game. The ones who have already

mastered them are busy working on teen numbers with teen and ten boards. Some children are working

on addition, multiplication works etc.

Sensorial: While some children are working on the cube-tower and broad stairs, others

are trying to figure out the circumference of knobbed or knob less cylinders. Some

children have moved on to more complex geometrical dimensions. Works like color box

is helping them to learn the names of colors. They are also working on color mixing

where they see how mixing two colors makes a new color.

Culture: In Botany, after tasting three kinds of apples (granny smith, red delicious and

golden) they learned the life cycle and parts of an apple. They also got a chance to see and touch the different parts of a real pumpkin. This month, we will learn about parts

of a turkey. In Geography, some children are working on world maps and others on maps

of a specific continent. Younger friends are working on the land and water parts of our

earth. This month we will be learning about migration as cold weather moves in.

Learning about Holidays and traditions will be covered as well.

Friends may bring one item for show and tell only on Fridays. They may bring in from

their collections (shells, rocks, culture based toys/dolls) etc.) or something that they have

created themselves (art work, craft etc.). Please no commercial theme based toys/dolls or

fragile items.

Important reminders:

Nov. 14,15: Parent -Teacher conference days. This is the time to have an in-depth

conversation regarding your child. Please remember to sign up on the sheet.

Tuesday,Nov.21 : Thanksgiving Party. Do not send any lunch as children will eat

food supplied by school (will include some traditional Thanksgiving items-all

veg.). Friends are welcome to bring in any item if they wish.

Nov.22: Early closing at 1PM.

Nov. 23th and 24th: School closed.
