Physician Research Accepted for Publication

Results from Dr. Nicolas Shammas’ study entitled, “In-hospital Outcomes of Patients Over 90 Years of Age Admitted for an Acute Coronary Syndrome at a Tertiary Medical Center” was recently accepted for publication in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society. This high-impact journal is considered one of the top journals in Geriatrics. Dr. Shammas’ study compared major adverse events, including cardiac mortality, total mortality, stroke, major bleeding and acute renal failure between two cohorts of patients over 90 years of age that underwent percutaneous coronary intervention versus those treated medically for acute coronary syndrome. This study was supported by Genesis Research Promotion Funds.

Congratulations to Dr. Shammas on this impactful publication!

Psychological Changes in Cancer Patients Participating in a Biobehavioral Intervention Principal Investigator: Melissa Wright, LMSW, OSW-C Rationale and Purpose: To determine how effective the “From Cancer to Health” treatment program developed by Ohio State University is in a larger, more diverse population of cancer patients. AdherentSleep Apnea Patients—What is the Effect of Diagnosis and Adherence Level on Inpatient Outcomes? Principal Investigator: Jon Lemke, PhD Rationale and Purpose: The purpose of this study is to categorize sleep apnea patients based on their reason for sleep study referral and their level of adherence, and examine whether this categorization has an effect on key health outcomes. Rapid Response Calls and Code Blue Activations Relative to Sleep Apnea Status Principal Investigator: Tosha Allen, DNP Rationale and Purpose: The purpose of this quantitative research is to (a) examine the relationship between rates of rapid response, code blues and sleep apnea status and (b) analyze the accuracy of nursing and physician documentation in regards to sleep apnea on patients who had a rapid response or code blue activation in the hospital. RN Satisfaction, Engagement, and Professional Development Pre and Post Implementation of a Re-Desgined Clinical Ladder Program Principal Investigator: Tosha Allen, DNP Rationale and Purpose: The purpose of this quantitative research is to utilize a Clinical Ladder Assessment Survey (CLAT) to (a) assess the current program and the newly designed program and (b) to compare pre- and post-implementation data.
