MARCH

2020

VOLUME 20 ISSUE 3

Lent begins with Ash Wednesday, a day when we remember our sinfulness

and our mortality, receiving ashes with the words, “Remember that you are

dust and to dust you shall return.” But those words hold a promise as well.

We do not end in death. Death has been overcome through the life, death,

and resurrection of Christ. Through God’s unfailing love and grace we have

been gifted the promise of eternal life. Our end is in God who loves us. The

season of Lent begins with Ash Wednesday, and ends with Resurrection. It

begins with dust and ends with life.

As we journey through Lent, then, we seek to reorient ourselves with

God who has done so much for us. We set aside our own will for God’s will.

We set our hearts and our minds on the call we have in Christ to love our God

and our neighbor as ourselves. We try to deepen our relationship with God

and to work for God’s justice and mercy in the world God loves and calls

good. One of the traditional practices is to give up something for Lent. This

Lenten season, think about giving up resentment, anger, and judgement. Give

up feelings that alienate us from one another and keep us from being the one

Body of Christ. Another Lenten practice is to take up something, to add

something new to our daily routine. This Lenten season, think about taking

up random acts of kindness. Take up forgiveness. Take up love and compas-

sion for those who are different from us and with whom we disagree. Our

Lenten journey is all about moving closer to God, and I can think of no better

way to do that that becoming closer one another.

Happy Lenting, people of God!

May Christ continue to draw you ever closer to himself and to one another.

In Christ,

Pastor Karen

To all of you lovely fellow members who have continued to support our personal

mission to collect bags for the Hattie Larlham Foundation, you need do so no more.

Unfortunately, the Foundation had a bed bug scare associated with donated bags so they are,

for oblivious reasons, no longer accepting them. At least we can all be comfortable that the

scare occurred between our visits with donations so none of us was responsible! From the

bottom of our hearts, thank you for our support over the past many years.

Karla and Ron Pagano
