2020 PER CAPITA

The Per Capita amount for 2020 is $30.55 per

member. The Per Capita assessment is to cover

the costs of operating the Presbytery of Detroit,

Synod of the Covenant and General Assembly.

They in turn provide direction, support and

guidance to the local churches. Our church is

required to use operating funds to cover the

difference between the amount the congregation

contributes and the amount our church is required

to pay the Presbytery of Detroit. Please help us to

defray the cost burden this assessment places on

our operating budget by paying your Per Capita

today.

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION - STEWARDSHIP AND MUSIC

“Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness;

come before him with joyful songs.” Psalm 100: 1-2

As I started pondering the relationship of stewardship and worship, I found it helpful to re-read the defini-

tions of each, so I could see how they intersect. Stewardship, simply, is to use the resources available to

take care of something. Biblically, we read in Genesis 1:26: Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our

image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the live-

stock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” So, right from our

beginnings, God intended for us to be stewards, taking care of the world and each other. It is in our DNA.

A short definition of Worship is: to honor or show reverence for as a divine being. This is used as a verb,

an action word. It isn’t a passive, spectator concept. One way to honor God is by using the gifts he gave

each of us, unique and wonderful. We read in 1 Corinthians 12:27, and many other places in the Bible,

that we are the hands and feet of God and that we have each been given special gifts to use for his

purposes. Again, it is in our DNA.

So, putting these two ideas together, it seems only natural that we should use our gifts (resources) in such

a way that helps or takes care of the world and others. And in doing so, we are worshipping and showing

stewardship.

Personally, music is a gift that God gave me. Don’t misunderstand. This isn’t me saying, “I’m gifted.”

Rather it is my realization that the Holy Spirit moves through me when I use and embrace the gifts of

music. I have experienced this throughout my life, but it really became apparent at RGPC. Upon attend-

ing/joining back in 2007, Kathy Marzolf asked me to coordinate the music portion of Youth Group, which

my son Justin and daughter Jamie were a part of. I gladly accepted and quickly found how much of an

impact music made on everyone. Through mission trips, visits to senior care facilities, special church

services and regular Youth Group events, I saw first-hand God at work.

There have been many music opportunities provided and encouraged along my journey so far at Rosedale,

and I have testified to others that I feel the Holy Spirit working through me on many occasions. Even bet-

ter is the opportunity to bring others together to share their gifts of music. In this way, they may hopefully

experience what I have felt and be able to spread God’s gifts even further. I am so thankful to you all for

your support along the way.

My story is still unfolding and yours are too. Please join me in using your gifts to help others and you will

feel an unbelievable sense of purpose and wholeness, which brings honor to God. It’s a win-win!

Love and blessings, Mark Adams
