The  DAR  Project  Patriot  Committee  is  working  to  increase  DAR  member  awareness  of  the  Women  in  Military  Service  for  America  (WIMSA)  Memorial  located  at  the  entrance  to  Arlington  Cemetery.  The  Memorial  is  preparing  to  launch  a  new  DAR  Oral  History  Partnership  Project,  inviting  chapters  around  the  nation  to  collect  and  submit  oral  history  interviews  with  military  women  who  are  DAR  members.  Each  chapter  is  encouraged  to  identify  and  register  their  service  at  http://www.womensmemorial.org/Membership/reg.html,  and  thank  all  veteran  daughters.  Recently  the  DAR  Service  for  Veterans  Fund  granted  the  WIMSA  Memorial  $5200  to  replace  their  computers  and  software  in  preparation  for  this  new  project.  Watching  the  movie  “Unsung  Heroes:  The  Story  of  America’s  Female  Patriots”  is  a  good  way  to  share  the  story  of  women  in  the  military  and  begin  conversations  within  your  chapter  about  participating  in  the  Oral  History  Partnership  Project.

‘The Wall That Heals”

We are organizing a carpool for the closing ceremony of the Vietnam “Wall That Heals”.  Please meet at the Los Gatos Lodge. We will depart from there by 8:30 am sharp. Look for an e-vite or contact Dana Baumgardner if you plan to ride or have questions. We are working with the organizers and will have a part in the closing ceremony. The Wall That Heals is a touring exhibition, featuring a half-scale replica of The Wall and a museum that takes the Memorial’s healing legacy to communities nationwide.

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund is trying to collect photographs of all of the veterans listed on the wall.  They would like people to bring photographs to the exhibit to be scanned.

The closing ceremony is April 12, 2015 10:00 to 11:30 at Golden Gate National Cemetery, 1300 Sneath Lane, San Bruno, CA 94006

President General's Message - February 2015 Dear Daughters,The month of February begins with the Executive Committee and National Board of Management meetings. This week will be filled with important business, meetings, leadership training workshops and a few special events.I look forward to visiting many State Societies this spring.  I am so eager to meet you and to hear about all you are doing to further the mission of the DAR.As winter turns to spring, I hope your chapter will be working with prospective members and encouraging others to join DAR, participate in service projects for Celebrate America! and take part in activities and celebrations for DAR’s 125th anniversary. Celebrate 125! officially kicked off last month and there has never been a more exciting time to be a member of DAR! Building upon 125 years of service to America, today’s DAR is vital, engaging and more important than ever before. I am so excited to launch this special anniversary celebration and to spread the story of DAR all year long. This year will include many special events, including a National DAR Day of Service, special features on the website and in American Spirit and a commemorative membership certificate for those who join DAR this year. Share this special video with your chapter to learn how you can join in on the historic quasquicentennial celebrations. In order to help chapters plan for this exciting year we have set up resources on the website that offer ideas and activities. The public 125th anniversary page includes slideshows, videos and other information to learn more about our history. The Celebrate 125! Committee page offers chapters tools to plan and promote anniversary activities throughout 2015. Each of these pages will continue to be updated with new information, so check back often! Learn more about Celebrate 125! here: http://youngblog.dar.org/celebrating-125-years-service-americaDAR members have been living outside of the United States almost from the time the National Society was founded and you may be surprised to know that the very first of these Units Overseas was in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1897, before it became a state in 1959.
