Strong Strides, Little Footsteps Run!
It’s never too early to teach your children about giving back to the community! On March 19th, children ages 3-5 will challenge themselves to run 26 laps around the McBurney gym in support of the 2011 Strong Kids Campaign. Participants will work with their families to collect pledges, and then challenge themselves to a mini-marathon in the spirit of kids helping kids. To sign your child up contact Faatmiah Croston at [email protected].

Middies Coat Drive = Sucess!
Each month, the Middies Afterschool Program chooses a Community Service
project. These projects foster a deeper connection between the middle
school students in our program and the issues that affect their community,
both locally and globally. Past projects have included a Holiday Toy Drive, a
Canned Food Drive, and a bake sale to benefit the Susan G. Komen Founda-
tion for Breast Cancer Research.
To kick off the new year, Middies organized a drive to benefit New York
Cares. The mission of the annual New York Cares Coat Drive is to donate
gently used, freshly laundered coats to New York City men, women, and
children who would otherwise be cold. Throughout the month of January,
with the help of the enormously philanthropic McBurney YMCA community,
we gathered scores of coats for donation. The generosity of our members
continued beyond the New York Cares January 14th deadline, and we
donated even more coats to the Salvation Army right across the street.
In total, over 100 coats were collected and donated! This being one of the
harshest winters in recent memory, the coat drive was a particularly pertinent
cause. The Middies had fun counting the coats, watching more and more
donations roll in every day, and seeing firsthand what a positive impact they’d
made on their community. Needless to say, it was a huge success!
Did you know we have an exciting new exercise
program for expecting and new mothers? Small
Group and Semi Private classes are available.
