Central Hymnbooks Continue to Bless... Spring Break VBS: April 1—5

Students 4th—8th grade are invited to spend Spring Break with the CBC Family Ministry at church and in the community! Each day is dedicated to learning how to care for ourselves and for the things around us. Students will explore what the Bible says about caring for God’s creation, and will practice caring through various activities and games. The deadline to sign up is March 17. If your child is participating, please consider volunteering for a day or part of a day.

In 2015, with the donations of many of you, we replaced our old 1981 Baptist Hymnals with the new Celebrating Grace hymnals. Over the years since, I held onto the old hymnals, hoping for new places where they may continue to bless. As of today, all of our old hymnbooks have found new homes.

A few years ago, thirty copies went to a small congregation in Chesterfield County and thirty went to serve as an additional worship resource at Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond. In 2018, our own Krista Mann Manuel took another thirty to enhance chapel worship at The Crossings at Bon Air, Independent & Assisted Living with Memory Care Center where she serves as Chaplain and Activities Assistant. One of the residents there is Elna Salmon, a member of Central and a regular attender of the weekly chapel services Krista leads. Krista states:

“We are doing regular ‘hymn sings’ now thanks to the generosity of Central! This gift was such a blessing to us!!”

And finally, as of this past January, the remaining 190 hymnals are being shipped to the Lott Carey Baptist Mission School in Liberia! Here are words of appreciation I just received from the principal:

“Dear Nelson, Greetings to you. I am Emile Sam-Peal, 2000 BTSR graduate. Deb Loftis told me that your church donated many hymnals for our school. Please convey our thanks to the church family. I serve as Principal for the Lott Carey Baptist Mission School in Brewerville, Liberia with 376 students. We have daily devotions and sing hymns. The hymnbooks will be used during our daily devotions, a very good way to teach hymns to our students and young people, so they have an appreciation for hymns and not just praise choruses. Hopefully some of them will take the time to meditate on the words. We have students who are Muslims and they learn and sing the songs, a way to witness and introduce them to Christ. Please continue to keep us in your thoughts and prayers and thank you very much. Blessings to you”

So, each Sunday as we are worshiping and celebrating in song with our new hymnbooks, know our old books are continuing to bless through song both near and far.

Sing-cerely, Nelson

Easter Eggstravaganza & Walk with Jesus Experience

Saturday, April 13 / 11:00 a.m.—1:00 p.m.

CBC family and community friends are invited to join us on Saturday, April 13 for the annual Easter Eggstravaganza! This year, families are invited on an interactive adventure to experience Easter by walking with Jesus. You will join Jesus in the major events that lead up to the resurrection: Palm Sunday, The Last Supper, Gethsemane, Good Friday, and Easter. There will also be an Easter Egg Hunt, hot dogs, and fellowship. In preparation for this event, we need volunteers with a variety of skills to decorate rooms, build staging material, create costumes, lead stations, donate candy, fill Easter Eggs, and hide Easter Eggs. Drop off candy donations in the Welcome Center (please no peanut products). Contact Allie Osborne or Abby Pratt if you would like to volunteer your time and/or resources, or to learn more about the Walk With Jesus program.

Child Dedication

Have you welcomed a new member into your family and would you like to celebrate him or her through dedication? This Mother’s Day (May 12) we invite families to dedicate children, celebrating the gift they are to our families and the faith journey we will nurture, partner, and support them along. Please contact Abby Pratt or David Turner to learn more about dedication.

Dietrich Scholarship We invite to apply: church members who are actively involved at Central Baptist Church; who exhibit qualities of leadership within their school, church, and community; and who show an investment in faith, the church, and the future of the church. Applications are now available in the Welcome Center and the Church Office. The deadline to apply is Sunday, April 28.

Zach Long is a senior at Monacan High School. He enjoys playing golf and watching sports. He will either go to the University of Virginia or the University of Georgia where he plans to study business and later work in Sports Administration. His dream job is to be a College Athletic Director.

Caroline Sundberg is a 3rd grader at Sabot at Stony Point. Her favorite parts of the day at school are research workshop and project because she loves to read and write; especially about history, and writing in cursive is a plus. If she could, she would eat chocolate all day, every day. She loves to laugh, is always creating something and her favorite color is blue.
