Dear Parishioners, On Ash Wednesday, March 6, we will begin another Lent, a time of Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving. Lent urges us, after we take time to pray and fast, to be as much concerned with deeds as with words, with ac-tions as with beliefs – not because the inner life doesn't matter, but because true character is best dis-played in action. Let's not fool ourselves, there is no such thing as cheap grace. Sacrifice for others must be part of the equation. One of the ways we can imitate Christ's sacrifice is through our financial offerings to our parish, to chari-table organizations, and to those in need. The chal-lenge is to see this giving not from a place of obliga-tion, because of the tax credit or from what's leftover at the end. We must see giving as a sacrifice for the benefit of others, for school-age children, the elderly sick who come in need of support, our teenagers and all young people who are looking for guidance, and all our brothers and sisters in Christ. Yes, our Lenten prayers, fasting, and almsgiving di-rect us outward, calling us to reconcile with someone we are estranged from. We are called to reach out, per-haps through Catholic Relief Service, Lenten Opera-tion Rice Bowl, or through our own Uncle Pete's Min-istry. Our outreach to the poor will, in the end, help us grow as person and make a better world for all. You're good people, generous people, that can't be de-nied. The Season of Lent affirms the good and the ho-ly in all God's people but also calls all of us to ever deeper conversion in order that the “Joy of Gospel” become ever more real in our daily life. May God Bless you this Lent, Father Mike Meany \
Drodzy parafianie, W Środę Popielcową, 6 marca, rozpoczniemy kolejny Wielki Post, czas Modlitwy, Postu i Jałmużny. Mike Meany

March 3: Eighth Sunday of Ordi-nary Time
In the Gospel today, Jesus uses imag-es in speaking to his disciples: “Can a
blind man act as guide to a blind man?... Why look at the speck in your brother’s eye when you miss the plank in your own?... A good tree does not produce decayed fruit....” It is true that donations come to the Society be-cause a good person produces goodness from the good in their heart.
Have you considered joining the Society of St. Vin-cent de Paul? Is there a family you know who needs assistance? Please call the Society of St. Vincent de Paul so that together we can help the suffering and poor.

Wincentego a Paulo? Jeśli znasz rodzinę która potrzebuje pomocy prosze za-dzwoń do naszego Stowarzyszenia St. Vincent de Paul. Razem możemy pomóc cierpiacym i potrzebującym.

The Knights of Columbus Council #4338 sponsored the St. John Brebeuf School Pat Jablonski Spelling Bee. The event’s name this year changed to honor all of the good works and dedication that Pat Jablonski has done for our Parish. As many know, she served on the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Knights of Columbus, was a Eucharistic Minister, and supported many other charitable objectives of our Parish. The Knights of Columbus thought it was appropriate to rename the spelling bee to remember her for years to come.

Uncle Pete’s Sack Dinner Ministry is about to kickoff its 2019 season. This ministry continues to serve those less fortunate in the Chicagoland area by serving over 400 meals per month. Some of the locations served include Deborah's Place, Franciscan Shelter, Mother Theresa Sisters of Charity Soup Kitchen, St. Leonard and Grace House. These places in need could use as many as 800 meals each month. Your involve-ment would be greatly appreciated … and it’s easy. On March 9th and 10th, at all the weekend Masses, brown bags and menu guidelines will be available at tables as you exit the church. You simply need to fill the bags and return them to the front of church on the morning of Tuesday, March 19th, between 5:45 AM and 9:00 AM. We need your help - Please consider being a part of this very worthwhile ministry. If you are interested in volunteering to distribute bags after the Masses, please contact Dan Vonder Heide at 773.910.5536. Thank you and God bless.

What we believe Catholic Relief Services: • God has called us to care for orphaned and unprotected children. • Every child has four basic necessities: provision, protection, instruction, and affection. • Awesome, loving, faith-based children's homes can be a great place for orphaned children to receive these four basic necessities. • Providing healthy food is a beginning step to see an orphaned child's life changed. • Covering an orphanage's food costs allows orphanage directors to better focus on nurturing, protecting, in-structing, and loving the children in their care. • Teaching biblical truths, moral virtues, and leadership skills to orphaned children has the potential to change lives, communities, and nations. • It's really cool to be a small part of something big God is doing.
