Dear Parishioners, The beloved disciple entered the tomb after Peter. He had already seen the burial clothes when he first arrived. Unlike with Peter, we are told how the beloved disciple responded after being in the tomb and seeing what he saw. “He saw and believed.” Each one of us comes to the faith at a different time and a dif-ferent circumstance. For some, like John, your faith is firm. For others, like Peter, it does not come instantly and fully, or perhaps you have painful dry spells. The Easter message is clear. The Lord knows our strengths and weaknesses. His love is not limited but all encompassing. Easter is about the Mercy and Compassion of Christ! Happy Easter, Father Mike Meany

PERPETUAL

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

Christ's followers were skeptical when He preached the reality of His Body and Blood as food and drink. St. John said, "many of His disci-ples withdrew and no longer went about with Him."

Seeing this, Jesus asked the Twelve, "Do you also want to leave me?" Simon Peter did not understand any more than those who left Christ, but his loyalty was more firm. "Lord," he said, "to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life." We have the "Word of Eternal Life" right here with us day and night in our Adoration Chapel. Do you have something you want to ask Him? There are several hours needing adorers. Please pick one for your personal hour with Him.

READINGS FOR APRIL 3 First Reading — The apostles perform many signs and wonders among the people. Many are added to their numbers (Acts 5:12-16). Psalm — Give thanks to the Lord for he is good, his love is everlasting (Psalm 118). Second Reading — John, caught up in the spirit, en-visions the glorified Lord, the first and the last, the one who lives (Revelation 1:9-11a, 12-13, 17-19). Gospel — The risen Christ comes to his disciples with peace and the Spirit. The absent Thomas doubts

(John 20:19-31). TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Fifty years or so ago, it was popular to teach that every Sunday is a “Little Easter.” Today, after several decades of intense liturgical reform, it is more proper to think of today as a “Big Sunday.” On every Sunday of the year, the Church is obliged to assemble, keeping the day holy. In most places, we hardly attain the goal of gathering all who are in Christ by baptism. Look around today and see what a Big Sunday looks like! Our tradition speaks of remembering, anamnesis, as the antidote to “amnesia,” the tragic forgetting of who God is and who we are as God’s most beloved creation. On this Easter day, we are at our very best. We remember who God is, and we remember who we are in God’s eyes: beloved sons and daughters, reborn to eternal life in bap-tismal waters. We rekindle our candles and reclaim our baptismal promises. As a “Big Sunday,” today also re-flects the character of festivity and leisure that should mark every Lord’s Day. We wear “Sunday best” today, and we may take some time, especially in the northern states, to stroll through a budding garden. It is truly a “Big Sunday,” and how different our lives would be if we took its values and traditions forward into all the Sundays of our lives.

The Anointing of the Sick Liturgy What do you know about this Sacrament and why has the church given us a sacrament to care for the sick. As Roman Catholics we have always believed in and practiced the anointing/healing of the sick. Jesus healed people according to the scriptures as found in (James 5:14-15): “Is there anyone sick among you? He should ask for the presbyters of the church. They in turn are to pray over him, anointing with oil in the Name [of the Lord]. This prayer uttered in faith will re-claim the one who is ill, and the Lord will restore him to health.” Our parish will be celebrating this special encounter with God on Saturday, April 9 at 10:00 a.m. Please attend if you feel that at this time in your life you need God’s tender care.

We cordially invite you, family, and care givers to attend Mass on

Saturday, April 9, 2016 10:00 a.m. Mass and Sacrament

Easter Season Flower Memorials What a beautiful way to remember your loved ones, living or deceased, with a donation in the amount of $10 toward the purchase of flowers which will grace the church environment from Easter until Pentecost. Only one name or one family name may be listed per donation, i.e. Mr. John Smith or John Smith Family. Please place this completed form along with your donation, in an envelope marked Easter Flowers. You may then place it in the offering basket or return it to the parish.

All memorials must be received by Easter Sunday, March 27 so that they can be published in the Divine Mercy Sunday, April 3rd bulletin. Please note that the names of those memorialized will be printed, not the donor’s name.

He who denies that human life begins with conception does not need to contend with religion, but science. To deny this certainty of biology is not to express a lack of faith, but a lack of basic knowledge of human genetics. Abortion destroys a human life that has great potential.

Let us continue to pray daily: “Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I love you very much. I beg you to spare the life of the unborn baby that I have spiritually adopted who is in danger of abortion.”

POLISH CHILDREN'S CHOIR and ENGLISH CHILDREN'S CHOIR

We are organizing a NEW SJB CHILDREN’S CHOIR to sing in Polish for the St. John Brebeuf celebration of First Holy Communion (in Polish) on Saturday, May 7th at 2:00 p.m. We need all children who can speak Polish and love to sing to come out and create this new fun group! Especially invited are the siblings of those who will receive our Lord at this liturgy. Four rehearsals will prepare us to celebrate with the First Communicants. Children will have the opportunity to learn about basic singing, and we will learn music for the mass and hymns. Children age 9-17 are invited.

A $15 fee will cover new binders and music. Questions? Call (in Polish or English) Mrs. Ewa Fair, SJB Children's Choir Director (773) 551-0284.

March 27: Easter Sunday Today as we celebrate the feast of Easter we find the challenge of also seeing and believing the resurrection that comes through our own lives of self-sacrifice which brings new life to others. Last month, through your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was able to help the poor cele-brate the joy of Easter by providing $250.00 in food, $1,000.00 Twinning with St. Turibius Parish,

$200.00 in Rent Assistance, $340.00 in Utilities, and $1,362.00 in Misc Client Aid. Thank You! Do you, or a family you know need assistance? Please call the Society of St. Vincent de Paul so that together we can help the suffering and poor. All information will be strictly confidential.

She has served on the social team of the Catholic Women’s Club for a number of years, where she bakes and serves refreshments at the general meeting and at many CWC and other parish events. She is an active member of the CWC Wake Committee, a Eucharistic Minister, a GLADD catechist, a member of the St. John Brebeuf Ladies Bowling League, and is a willing volunteer for any-thing that needs to be done. She represents St. John Brebeuf Parish as Woman of the Year 2016. Nominated by Sue Schoenfeldt.

"Ujrzał i uwierzył". Każdy z nas odkrywa wiarę w różnym czasie i różnych okolicznościach. Pan zna nasze mocne i słabe strony. Jego miłość nie jest ograniczona, ale wszechogarniająca. Wielkanoc to miłosierdzie i współczucie Chrystusa! Wesołych Świat Wielkanocnych! Ks. Mike Meany
