Entering Humbly the Week called HOLY

Dear People and Friends of Saint Joseph’s,

As we hear again of Jesus’ humble entry into Jerusa-lem, we are reminded of the kind of Messiah we have who brings us God’s mercy. Humility and obedience not only mark the attitude of the Son, but also mark all who wish to be disciples of the Son and sharers in his life. For the past 35 days, hopefully the journey of Lent has deepened our Christian Identity as children of our heavenly Father, disci-ples of the Lord Jesus, and temples of the Holy Spirit. Now, like the Lord, we are invited to proceed “up to Jerusalem,” that we might enter more deeply into the love that trans-forms us into Beloved Disciples.

Humility is key. Humility enables us to acknowledge that we need the Lord, that he is the one for whom we thirst and the One without whom we cannot live. Humility allows us to admit that we have sinned and need God’s mercy. Humility enables us to open our hearts to be loved by the Lord whose love is so immense and not completely fathomable. Yet, with humility, we are able to surrender ourselves to be loved completely by the Lord. In understanding the immen-sity of this love, in accepting it without deflections or a divid-ed heart, and in allowing it to transform us, we progress along the way of Becoming Intentional Disciples and a com-munity of Intentional Disciples.

The urgency of becoming Intentional Disciples is not only for our own salvation and eternal life, but also to culti-vate the power to share effectively this Good News pro-claimed by the centurion at the cross, "Truly this man was the Son of God!" Intentional Disciples help others—like our children, our siblings, our parents, our friends and neigh-bors—come to know Jesus and become his disciples also. Holy Week offers a singular opportunity to ‘hear’ the Lord’s Sacred Heart beat with LOVE for you and to begin more and more to see others through the eyes of our loving Sav-ior, so that we may have the same zeal for them sharing God’s life and love as Jesus does.

This week we call “Holy” is no ordinary week. Yes, it consists of 7 days, 168 hours, 10,080 minutes, or 604,800 seconds like any other week. TIME TALENT and TREASURE A Way of Life at Saint Joseph’s

Renewal at Saint Joseph’s through Intentional Discipleship

Intentional Discipleship requires a deliberate decision to pursue a deeper conversion (relationship) with Christ through worship, pray-er, service, giving, studying, and discerning. The Catechism of the Catholic Church states that the process of conversion and repent-ance was described by Jesus in the parable of the prodigal son, the center of which is the merciful father. The parable reveals the new life — pure, worthy and joyful — of anyone who returns to God and to his family, the Church. Only the heart of Christ who knows the depths of the Father’s love could reveal to us the abyss of his mercy in so simple and beautiful way.

Please consider pursuing God’s love and mercy by participating in one or more of the following:

Daily Mass and the Sacrament of Reconciliation — Experience the gifts of conversion and the healing power of the Sacra-ments of Reconciliation and the Holy Eucharist. Please con-sider attending daily Mass and participating in the Sacrament of Reconciliation as we prepare for Easter.

Become a Perpetual Adorer — No other sacrament (except the Holy Eucharistic) has greater healing power; through it sins

are purged away, virtues are increased, and the soul is en-riched with an abundance of every spiritual gift.

St. Thomas Aquinas

Sign up for 1 hour a week as a perpetual adorer or a substitute in our Adoration Chapel. Open 24 hours a day, except when Mass is celebrated. To sign up please call the Rectory and ask for Mary Ellen Gardner. Legion of Mary — The Legion is a lay apostolic association of Catholics who, with the sanction of the Church, serves the Church and their neighbors.
