FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE New Stó:lō Business Association to be Launched March 22 2016, Chilliwack, BC - The Aboriginal Business Connect event will be hosted by Stó:lō Community Futures on March 31 st on the Coqualeetza grounds at 7201 Vedder Road, Chilliwack, BC. This event is funded through the generous support of the Aboriginal Business Service Network and Western Economic Diversification, for Aboriginal business leaders and entrepreneurs who are looking for ways to improve and build a successful business. There will be several business activities, including a ninety minute business education panel that will be held in Building 10 in the Stó:lō Resource Centre, followed by a invaluable entertaining network opportunity, including cultural dance and Aboriginal inspired food at the Coqualeetza Longhouse. “The main highlight and outcome of the ABC event on March 31 st will be the formal launch of the new Stó:lō Business Association”, says Louis De Jaeger, Chair of the Stó:lō Community Futures Business Networking and Public Relations Committee. “This new Stó:lō Business Association will be modeled after other Aboriginal business associations and chambers, offering a host of membership benefits for Aboriginal businesses. It will become the voice of the Aboriginal business community”, said De Jaeger. This event will feature a panel of speakers, including Aboriginal Business owners and experts in the field, including Jeff Hunt, Partner from Manning Elliot and Lincoln Douglas, Owner of K&L Contracting, and recent Provincial Aboriginal Business of the Year Award winner, Bruce Davies from Waterstone Law and Darwin Douglas, Co-Owner of Cheam Trading. One of the event’s highlights will be Bob Stamnes from Elevator Strategy in Vancouver, who will talk about the branding and marketing in the Aboriginal community. Elevator Strategy will conduct the first “Stó:lō Dragon’s Den” feature, a challenge amongst Aboriginal businesses based upon the popular TV series. A major portion of this event will showcase cultural strength and pride at the Coqualeetza Longhouse. This event will also showcase Linda Kay Peter’s latest fashion designs, Aboriginal- inspired cuisine from Bravo Restaurant, Garrison Bistro, Marnetta Felix, Rick Quipp, the Harvest Store & Cafe and international award-winning Chef Andrew George, to showcase the growing Aboriginal food movement locally. “ABC is a part of the larger Vision STÓ:LŌ MEANS BUSINESS that aims for the Stó:lō Traditional Territory to become a leading centre of Aboriginal business and entrepreneurial growth within British Columbia. With a strong presence of over 250 Aboriginal businesses in Sólh Téméxw, this event will have participation from a wide range of Aboriginal business sectors”, said Shirley Hardman, Chair of Stó:lō Community Futures. “The new Stó:lō Business Association will be a key building block in the future growth of the Aboriginal business economy”.
