TRANSCRIPT
Comrades,
February is gone and March is upon us. We have been blessed
with some spring-like weather for the past few weeks but Old
Man Winter is holding on for a bit longer.
March kicks off on the 3rd with our monthly trip to Lonesome
Dove horse farm to assist disabled veterans with horse riding
therapy. The group leaves the Post at 10AM and if you'd like to
help out, see Comrade Doris Wollett. Also, March 3rd is
"Super Tuesday" for the Democrat Party primaries. Our Post is
a polling place so many county citizens will be coming in to
vote. Virginia is an open primary state so you don't have to be a
member of the Democrat party, primary voting is open to all
voters.
On the 5th, we'll deliver and serve dinner to the homeless men
at Liberation Shelter in Richmond. If you'd like to help, See
Quartermaster Ray Bassetti. Or just show up before the van
leaves at 6 PM. All the fellas in this shelter are military veter-
ans who have hit a tough time in their lives. We stand with
them and we will see them get back on their feet.
Our first March meeting is at 7:30 on the 12th. Come on out

and see what goes on in the meetings. The Post Commander leads the meetings. The other officers and committee
chairmen or women report on what’s going on with their committees. This is your Post and the leadership counts on
hearing differing views from our large and diverse membership. Have a free beverage and good fellowship afterwards
too. Come early and have dinner.
On Saturday the 14th, 11 AM to 2 PM, we'll be hosting our third Wounded Warriors event at the Post. Wounded vets
from McQuire Hospital are coming over for lunch and afternoon games. Come and have lunch with these Warriors.
Sit and talk to them and perhaps more importantly, listen.
On the 17th, the Club menu will feature the old St.Patricks day standard Corned Beef & Cabbage. $10 for the special
meal. The monthly Saturday Breakfast Buffet will be on the 21st, $8.
The Club and Bingo operations are always interested in more help, volunteers. When warmer weather does finally
arrive for good, we'll be looking for a few good lawn warriors to keep the Post home looking sharp. Our Post is at one
of the busiest crossroads in Mechanicsville so we must keep up our military standards. Nothing we do is difficult, it
just takes a desire to be helpful. Confucius say, "Many hands make light work!" If you are thinking of volunteering
but have not done so yet, are you aware that with as few as 200 volunteer hours, you, your children or your grandchil-
dren can become eligible for educational scholarship money? Many, many thanks to the volunteers that put in so
many hours to keep the Post going, we can't do it without you.
Keep your powder dry,
Cole Winkler
Senior Vice Commander

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
It's exciting to recognize the promising signs of Spring, daffodils in bloom, budding trees and extended daylight hours. Everyone complimented our newly painted meet-ing room. Daylight savings time begins March 8th, re-member to set your clocks forward.
We're climbing the membership ladder. We need (6) six more renewals to reach our membership goal. Please in-vite your eligible family and friends to join our Auxiliary. We welcome our new members Mathew McGall, Eileen Ruth, Terri Murtagh, and Katherine Winn. Please encour-age them to participate in our activities.
The Valentine's Dinner and Dance was enjoyed by every-one in attendance. The Valentine photos are happy mem-ories.
Everyone is looking forward to St. Patrick's Day on March 17th.
We're preparing and working for a successful Tea and Fashion Show on April 18th from 2 PM to 5 PM. Promo-tional fliers are available to share with community re-sources and inform friends and family. Tickets are availa-ble for $20.00 in advance. Call Vivian White, Nancy Smithson and Lola Burnett to purchase tickets. Kim Boehme will be collecting items for our Silent Auction. Please contact me if you are willing to model. Our Auxil-iary members, Post members, friends and children are welcome. We'll need at least 12 participants.
Auxiliary Spring officially arrives on March 19th. Yoga has been enjoyed by a number of our members on Monday eve-nings.
We were well represented at 3rd District on the 29th of February. It is always interesting to hear how other Auxil-iaries are taking care of our veterans. I appreciate every-one for attending.
Remember to check on our sick and shut-ins. If you know of anyone who's sick or has lost a loved one, please con-tact our Chaplain, Diane Absher at 804-240-2460 or [email protected]. She will keep us informed when our brothers and sisters need our support.

LONESOME DOVE
Tuesday, 4 Feb, Post members Ron Scoville, Ray Dawson, Ray Bassetti, Phil Hudson, Fred Kuester, and Doris Wol-lett made the trip out to Lonesome Dove to support the equestrian therapy given to Veterans from McGuire VA Hospital. After the therapy session we served lunch to everyone in attendance. For the first time JRROTC stu-dents from Cumberland High School were there volun-teering along with other students from the Agriculture Dept. Cassie prepared a delicious lunch and it was very much appreciated. The Post sign has been made and will be hung along the wall in the paddock. If you are interest-ed in assisting with this event contact Doris Wollett.
