Letter from the BOARD
What’s going on here at Los Prados? We now have a new budget that will carry the Association forward for the next twelve months. Similar to last year, the new budget takes into consideration all expenditures required to keep all things moving forward. The Los Prados of 2020 is not the same Los Prados of 2016. Back then the Association suffered from poor management that caused the Reserve Fund to reach a very dangerous level and over all service and maintenance was inadequate. Since then, new administrative personnel were put into place. New Department heads were brought in and the Boards of Directors began focusing on the health of the Reserve Fund while working with the General Manager to ensure improvement with tackling long standing issues with the common area, golf shop, golf course maintenance and the clubhouse. Last year I had a conversation with a resident. Due to the number of changes that were being made at the time, the statement was made: “It will never be the same”. My response was: “That’s true. It will never be the same again. It will be better”. And, that is exactly what has happened. For the last two years, the Boards of Directors have encouraged all Departments to increase revenue where possible or as least, to keep expenditures down to an acceptable level. A number of cost cutting measures have been put into place. To list a couple, Employee health benefits program costs were reduced by $25,000 a year and the Maintenance Department has saved the Association thousands of dollars with projects too numerous to list here. In terms of the budget, 2019 compared to 2018, the Food and Beverage Department has improved by $41,000, the Golf Shop has improved by $47,000 and Golf Course Maintenance has improved by $56,000; these are some of the reasons why the monthly assessment will not be increased this year. 2020 looks even brighter. It is anticipated that the Caliche Room and the two meeting rooms will be updated. It will be a costly project, but working within the new budget in conjunction with the Reserve Fund, we will finally begin work on this long needed improvement. As of this writing, all functions of the Association are in full stride. Yes, it will never be the same as it was. It is better now and only getting better.

General Manager’s Letter Administration
At the recent Membership and Budget Ratification meeting, the 2020-2021 Budget was ratified. The new Budget begins on March 1st
and there is no increase to this year’s budget. Your monthly amount remains at $184/month and provides the homeowners with a host of amenities: restaurant/bar, golf, putting area, chipping and driving range areas, guard gates, RV parking lot, clubs, room rentals or sometimes free rooms for homeowners, pools, spas, wedding venue, special events venue, gaming, and a library...just to name a few. The Los Prados homeowners and residents are getting a lot for your money!
Revenues have increased since 2017, and the Board has ONLY needed to increase the assessments by 3% ONE TIME (2018-2019 Budget) during my tenure. An Excellent feat! In the 2018 – 2019 Budget, the 3% increase in assessments was primarily due to utilities and contract services going up. So overall, Los Prados offers SO much for the homeowner than other Associations in the valley.
I also want to remind everyone to please join me at the General Manager’s meeting every 3rd Tuesday in the library here at the Clubhouse. I have a lot people attending now and love the feedback and questions.
Maintenance
We are getting ready for warmer weather whereby the refrigeration preventive maintenance schedule begins. Maintenance will be working on all the AC units through-out. This includes checking refrigerant levels, inspect the compressors, clean condenser coils, check expansion valves, check evaporator coils and replace filters on all units. We will perform equivalent maintenance on the ice machines as well as all freezers and food refrigerators. We are prepping pool pumps for the re-plastering of the north pool and spa as we get ready to re-open that pool in April. Also, staff is welding the loop road fence again; specifically, along the White Palms subdivision area. This is a big area that needs to be repaired and the fence newly fabricated. As a reminder, please remove all the vegetation – that means your trees and bushes – off the fence that is on the loop road; otherwise, we cannot perform the repair work

Golf Membership renewals are due March 1st. If you have not renewed by the time you receive this newsletter, please see golf shop for more details. We have our new spring merchandise coming in March and are going to have great price points so please come check them out. We are having a Callaway demo day on Friday, February 28th from 9 am till 2 pm. This is a free event for all. Callaway came out with a new line of clubs so come and check it out.
Golf Course Maintenance Report Staff is continuing to remove weeds and grass in landscape areas to minimize growth when warmer weather arrives. Once we complete this process, we will continue the trimming of bushes and trees. We will begin to stir traps around greens and par 3’s this week to fluff the sand for better play. We will be dusting the greens with sand this week to get a smoother roll.
Loop Road
Arbor Tree Services has started the pruning and trimming of trees around loop road.
Compliance
The primary activity occurring relating to Compliance issues is weeds growing in homeowner’s yards. The Compliance Department will send you a letter noticing the violation and you will have a short amount of time to work on those weeds. Please do so to keep your neighborhood looking great and your property value up.
Security I have completed a draft version of the Post Orders to be used by Triton and waiting for the Security Committee to review same. Once they review and suggest changes, we will meet together to finalize the verbiage and present the Post Orders to the Board for review.
Food and Beverage
As our 2020 calendar fills up with various weddings and other parties, please don’t hesitate to get your event on our schedule. October, November, and December have been of particular interest to outside groups. I don’t want any of our Los Prados groups to miss out on the dates they want. You may see some new faces in the restaurant as we prepare for the warmer weather, so let’s make sure we let our new additions know how fun of a place this is to work!
General As a reminder each month, please sign up for important Eblasts that we use to reach out to residents.
Until next month, Lori Martin

Coyotes have been spotted on the golf course and in the community.
Below are a few safety tips:
Never feed coyotes - it is illegal to feed coyotes in most places. Feeding endangers your family and neighbors as it lures coyotes into neighborhoods.
Keep unattended cats and dogs indoors or in completely enclosed runs, especially at night, and do not assume that a fence will keep a coyote out of your back yard.
Accompany your leashed pet outside. Make sure you turn on lights if it is dark, to check your back yard for unexpected wildlife.
Keep dogs on short leashes while walking outside; the Division of Wildlife recommends a leash no longer than 6 feet. Have noisemakers on hand to scare away coyotes that may enter your yard, such as
whistles and horns. Don't run away or turn your back on a coyote. Do not allow a coyote to get in between you and your pet or child - keep children close
to you. Yell, clap hands, blow a whistle and try to make yourself look larger if you have a close
encounter with a coyote.

Census 2020
You may notice census takers in your neighborhood this year.
This is a normal part of conducting the census. Your information is such an important part of the 2020 Census, that if you haven't responded on your own, we send census takers to help make sure you are counted.
The 2020 Census isn't the only activity the Census Bureau has this year. So you may see Census Bureau employees out collecting responses for other surveys, such as the American Community Survey.
How Can You Verify That Someone Is a Census Worker?
Census takers will visit homes in April to conduct quality check interviews, and then in mid-May to help collect responses.
If someone visits your home to collect information for the 2020 Census, check to make sure that they have a valid ID badge, with their photograph, a U.S. Department of Commerce watermark, and an expiration date. Census workers may also carry Census Bureau bags and other equipment with the Census Bureau logo.
If you still have questions about their identity, you can contact your Regional Census Center to speak with a Census Bureau representative.

Driving/Walking on Course while not playing
We ask all homeowners and guests to help us by not using the golf course cart paths as your road home. It is a safety issue as well as a courtesy to the golfers playing the course. Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated. Thank You!!
Rules This past year there has been some rule changes that can be confusing. Each month I will highlight a rule change that will hopefully clear up any questions you may have about the new rules.
Under Rule 18.2, the time for a ball search (before the ball becomes lost) has been reduced from 5 minutes to 3 minutes.
Limiting the search period to 3 minutes is more consistent with the underlying principle that golf is to be played in a prompt and continuous way, without long pauses in play. In most cases, if the ball is going to be found, it will be found within the first 3 minutes. Although this change may increase the number of lost balls, on average the overall impact should be to speed up play. Knowing that the search time is limited to 3 minutes should encourage players to play a provisional ball when they believe there is a chance their ball may not be found.
Membership
It’s that time of year again to renew or join as a member of Los Prados. Starting February 17, 2020, Gabriel Shulman will be collecting payments for the upcoming fiscal year. Memberships run from March 1, 2020 until February 28, 2021. We have good news for all upcoming members, due to the mix of play from the public, which has helped with the financial success of Los Prados; we will not be raising membership dues this year. This is an exciting time for golf and we are looking forward to another great year.
Lesson-Mike Starks
Nearly every down swing fault is due to starting it with the upper body rather than ‘bumping the hips’. Imagine skimming a stone or throwing a baseball and how the lower body starts the movement with the upper body following.

OPENING A NEW CHAPTER
GENERAL MATTERS
In response to several suggestions, a new reading classification is being created. It is being called “CLASSIC RE- READS”. The intention is created a Book Case stocked with donations that will include some of the great classics of writing plus authors of recent times who have either passed away or are no longer writing novels. These might include among others authors such as Dick Francis, Margaret Truman, and James Michener. The books will be stock by author name on shelf #11. If you have such books in good condition and have been reluctant to donate in the past, either drop them in the donation box or call me.
Just a reminder for those who have not visited the Library lately, it has been remodeled to facilitate movement. It contains a large number of Hard and Paperback Novels usually including books that are on the current New York Times Best Selling List. Also, in stock are a large number of puzzles, books on cd, dvd movies, and some music CD’s.
The Library is open to all Los Prados residents and staff. It is an operated on the honor system. If you wish to donate any items just place them in the Donation Box on the Fireplace Mantel. If you have a large donation, it would be appreciated if you would first call me.
TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE
Two of the All-Time famous radio shows are GANG BUSTERS and Mr. KEENE, TRACER OF LOST PERSONS.
Gang Busters ran weekly on various radio networks with varied sponsors from 1/36 to 11/57 in a ½ hr. format. It was described as “the only national programs that brings you authentic case histories”. It was able to do so because FBI Director - J. Edgar Hoover - “agreed to Let Lord (program creator) use FBI files on “closed cases” provided the Bureau could review the scripts.” The opening sounds are classic and included “The blast of a policeman’s whistle. Shuffling feet. A broken window. The metallic voice of a burglar alarm. A police siren. Machine guns spraying bullets. Tire screeching. Glass breaking.”
Another feature of the show was the “clues’ ending. After each story, nationwide alarms were broadcast for actual criminals currently wanted by law officials. Details were given of the criminal’s appearance with stress on scars and distinguishing features. No final count is available but hundreds of apprehensions have been documented of these criminals being brought to justice because of these broadcasts. The phrase “Came on Like Gang Busters” is attributed to this show and its opening.
The Mr. Keene show ran from 10/37 to 4/55 once again on various radio networks with varied sponsors. Its length ran from a 15 minutes daily serial to a ½ hr. complete show. The show is noted for several features including its theme song “Someday I’ll Find You” and Mr. Keene’s ability to ignore all rules and barge into homes and offices without warrants and detain/questions suspects at will.
However, the most unusual aspect of the show is - No one knows Mr. Keene‘s first name because it was never spoken and yet when he was introduced to anyone - banker or maid - as Mr. Keene, everyone knew who he was and replied in variations of the statement “You mean Mr. Keene - the famous investigator”
Most of the information on these shows was taken from “Tune In Yesterday - The Ultimate Encyclopedia of OLD-TIME RADIO - 1925- 1976” by John Dunning. From time to time, you can hear these shows on Sirius XM Satellite Radio Channel 148 which is dedicated to old time radio shows.

Men are welcome to join the exercise program. Reminder: Exercise decreases risks of falls, mental improvement, and enhances
cognitive function. If you are sedentary, gals 1400-1600 daily calories; guys 1800-2000; if active
as much as 2400-2600…..so EXERCISE!! A good program will work legs, hips, back, abs, chest, shoulders and arms. Also, recommended for seniors to use bands, weights, strengthen the core and
do stretching. As most know, regular exercise can help present common diseases, like diabetes and heart disease….keep moving. Bananas are known to maintain a healthy weight, may not for those with
diabetes. Foods to cut as you age: sodas, high sodium, alcohol, raw or undercooked eggs/
meat/poultry, grapefruit and caffeine. Add a little honey, it is known to fight several chronic conditions seniors face
as they age. Friendship and social interactions are better than anything money can buy. Join

COLWOOD PLACE NEWS
Next month we will be holding annual elections again for three expiring seats on your Board of Directors. If you wish to run for a seat the forms will be sent out this month. The forms need to be returned quickly so your name will appear on the ballot in April. Once the nominees are known then the actual ballot will be sent out to all residents and you will be able to either return them by mail or hand deliver them at the April 7th meeting. Also on the April 7th meeting we will be seeking ideas for our Pool Party (or parties) for this summer. Last years party was a great party and everyone had a very good time. Prudence is seeking ideas for this year so think about some themes and bring them to the meeting. Soon the pool will reopen. The rules that were adopted last year are prominently displayed so everyone will be able to know and abide by them. Remember the Pool Parking area is for pool and maintenance only and not to be used for "off street" parking as has been done last year. As summer approaches more and more people are allowing their doggies to take them for a longer walk. Remember the furry little critters can not pick up after themselves (that is why they take their owners for the walk).
Thank You, Steven Clark
CEDAR POINT VILLAGE
The Annual Homeowners Meeting was held on January 22, 2019 at the Los Prados Community Clubhouse. The following slate of officers were re-elected:
Cheryl Wiehl - President
James Manos - Secretary
Gerald Fishman - Director
Our Landscape Representative is Gerald Fishman, if you have issues with the landscaping, please contact him at 702-658-7278 between the hours of 9:00 to 4:00 weekdays. Please call by Wednesday 4:00 pm so he can talk to the landscapers on Thursday morning.
We have ordered signs announcing HOA Board meetings each quarter. These signs will be placed at each entrance three days prior to the meeting night as a reminder.
We still have approximately 6 homeowners who have not submitted their Certificate of Occupancy. We will be contacting these homeowners once again in an effort once again to get these documents completed. Remember this protects our community from losing our over 55 status.
Watering schedule will change again this month to 3 days a week. Arrietta will be changing the clocks the first week of March.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at 702-657-1947 between the hours of 9:00 to 4:00 Monday – Friday.
Next meeting will be April 8, at 6:00 P.M. at Los Prados Community Clubhouse. We encourage all homeowners to attend. Mark your calendars.

March – thoughts of Springtime, the Ides, St. Patrick, and flowers beginning to show in our gardens. Don't let that urge to wash windows and spring clean keep you from the important stuff like GOLF! Get out there on Thursday mornings and join your Niner friends for a fun nine holes of golf.
The first Thursday of February marked another nine hole tournament. The format called for only counting the scores from even numbered holes. Tournament chairperson, Diane McGaughey, was put to the test this time. Three players tied for first place and after the resulting scorecard playoff, Diane declared Leslie Fox-Priest to be in third place, Barbie Starks in second and Debbie Rainey was awarded the first place prize. Congratulations to all!
There are some other accolades due to Niners, as well. In January Mary Beth Dempsey scored a chip-in on #8. On February 6th Marsha Meskan birdied #15 and chipped in on #17. Sharon Jansen chipped in on #15. These are “pin-worthy” events. Hoorays for all of you!
Please remember to sign up for Thursday golf by the end of the day on Tuesday so golf course management can plan for tee-times. Be at the course by 8:30, ready to be called to the tee.
Our March meeting will be held after golf on March 12th at approximately 11:00 a.m. If you don't wish to play that day, come join us for an early lunch and catch up on the activities of the group.
Membership in the Niners is open to women who are familiar with the etiquette and rules of golf. If anyone would like more information, sign up in the Pro Shop and join us for a nine-hole round of golf at 8:30 on Thursdays or call President, Connie Salazar, 530-276-3508, for more information.

The Board has finished making plans for the Spring Fling event to be held on 5/3/20.We will have a Golf Tournament followed by Wine Tasting at several homes in our village and then followed by a Buffet at the Club House. This event is normally well attended, so when the fliers come out, sign up early to be able to participate.
A letter will sent to all residents of Palm View Village asking for our annual dues (which subsidize our events) and for names, addresses, phone #’s and E- mail’s. It’s important we have this information on file so that we can communicate with you about village events and for emergencies that may occur in our village.
Our board has set the dates for the years events. The dates are as follows: Spring Fling 5/3/20, Fall Party 10/4/20. Please mark your calendars.
We always strive to have events, which welcome all residents, renters, guests and children. Finally, an important quote; Love is always given as a gift freely, willingly, and without expectation. We don’t love to be loved, we love to love.

Wednesday, March 4: – Senior Solos Dinner and Meeting. Dinner and drinks start at 5:00PM. Please pay cash to help the waitress. The meeting will follow at 6:30 in the Cypress Room.
Tuesday, March 10: – Table Shuffleboard at Sean Patrick’s Irish Pub at 2:00. Contact Tommy Haynes at 623-680-8225.
Tuesday, March 17: – St Patrick’s Day Dinner in Patio Room at Clubhouse. Starts at 4:00. Contact Sharon Mannor 702-839-1508 if you are planning to join in.
Wednesday, March 18: – Don’t-Eat-Alone Wednesday at 5:00PM at the clubhouse restaurant. Come and join us in the patio room!
Thursday March 26: – Table Shuffleboard and Happy Hour at Santa Fe Mining Company. Contact Tommy Haynes 623-680-3673 for further information or to let him know you will be coming. It is a lot of fun, and since it’s also happy hour, why not come and try it.
Don’t forget about Spur-of-the-moment suggestions, which are always welcomed. There are plenty of good movies coming at the moment. Pick a movie you would like to see, and a time. Then contact Sharon Mannor 702-839-1508. She will send out a group email and contact Rose Addamo who will call members that don’t have email. I bet there are others out there that would want to go too. Just need someone to start the ball rolling.
Best Birthday Wishes to all Solos who are celebrating March birthdays.

March – whether you arrive like a lamb or a lion, we golfers are happy to welcome you and the Springtime you bring!! The February Low Gross qualifier was Brooke Hempel with a Gross score of 71 and Low Net honors were captured by Cindi Chittenden with a net 70. Some pretty sharp playing by these two ladies and to top it off Cindi also won the drawing for January players!! Congratulations to both of you.
The highlight of March will be the President's Cup competition which will begin with eight groups of four (A, B, C and D) players competing in three matches (March 11, 18 and 25) in order to play against each player in their group. The winning eight players will advance to final competition during the next three play dates. The entry fee is $15.00 and the groups will be drawn and announced at the March 4th meeting.
The Los Prados team players are off to a good start. On January 27th they competed against Revere at Bear's Best and came away with the victory. February 10th found them at Wild Horse, competing against a tough Boulder City team and still earning five points. The match at Sienna on February 24th will be covered in the next newsletter. We will host the March 23rd matches at Los Prados but the host team does not compete.
Linda Ericson has announced the winners for the final quarter of 2019 Birdie Tree. Linda Chandler is the A Flight winner and Linda Ericson is the B Flight winner. Each of them had three birdies during the quarter. Be sure to add your name to the Birdie Tree after you play each Wednesday. Those winners' checks are calling!
The Los Prados Club Championship will be held on April 25 and 26 and is open to all women and men who have purchased GHIN handicaps through Los Prados. An event on Thursday evening, April 24, will kick off the festivities and tournament play will be on Saturday and Sunday. There will be a celebration dinner on Sunday after play is complete. Look for further updates and entry forms in the Pro Shop the beginning of April.
Our LPWGA championship will be played on October 14th and 21st this year.
March yields four birthdays to celebrate: Barb Houliston 3/20, Barb Daffenberg 3/21, Terry Strong 3/23 and Marcia Lee 3/27. Best wishes to all of you (us)! We also have a new member to celebrate: Carol Sohn, welcome to our group. We look forward to getting to know you.
See you around the course, Barb Houliston, Public Relations

The monthly meeting of the LPGA was held on February 4th, 2020 at the Los Prados Clubhouse and called to order at 2:00 pm by Vice-President Cary Davis.
Members present: Cary Davis, Barb Starks, Dolly Tucker, Rich Trang, Janice Lunde, and Robbie Robertson.
Others present: Barb Houliston, Bryan Mamon, Ron Bond, Bobby Meagher.
Rules Chairman: Robbie Robertson was temporarily appointed as rules chairman, replacing Marcia Lee.
Meeting Minutes: Motion to approve minutes from the January 7, 2020 meeting was made by Janice, seconded by Dolly.
Treasurers Report: Dolly reported balance forward of $3777.52 with 254 handicap fees collected totaling $12,700; debits include $32.32 for new account set-up and $20 to reimburse LPWGA for 2019 handicaps. New balance as of January 31, 2020 is $16,425.20.
Dolly advised will be shredding old records (2000-2016) as only three years need to be retained. No objections.
Discussion continued regarding the club championship budget. Ron questioned the number of entries anticipated (100) as in prior years there were usually around 70 entries. Cary replied the addition of a Friday night pre-function, Sunday dinner, a putting contest plus the entry fee of only $50 will hopefully entice more golfers. Possibly changing the format from two days to one may encourage more players, but no action taken at this time.
Tournament Chairman Report: Janice reported she and Barb H audited the last two years and found no discrepancies; however, it was suggested that better records be kept as only checks written were entered into the register but no deposits or ATM withdrawals. There were also no records of the individual tournaments held throughout the year. Janice advised she will prepare a report for each tournament showing number of entries, total funds received and disbursed with the goal being a zero balance.
She also requested that she, as well as Dolly, have weekly access to the lockbox in the golf shop in order to retrieve entry fees for each tournament so she has an idea of who had paid and who has not. Bryan agreed.
Handicap Chairperson: No representative. Dolly motioned to table the discussion of the LPWGA $5 reimbursement per handicap, Cary seconded.
LPWGA: Nothing to report.
Niner’s: Nothing to report.
Director of Golf: Getting ready for the upcoming season and have been very busy.
Greens Chairperson: Nothing to report

Constitution and By-Laws: Dolly distributed most recent copy of the by-laws. Update was discussed for Article IX, Tournaments, to reflect the same wording that is on the LPGA tournament schedule. By-laws say “to complete in regular and special tournament events, a member must have an established Los Prados handicap”; tournament schedule says “anyone with a Los Prados Club handicap can play in all tournaments; anyone with a USGA handicap can play in all tournaments except the club championship”. Will put on agenda for next meeting. Meeting was adjourned at 2:18 pm.
