President Sue’s Chatter: A warm welcome to our two

newest members Judy and Don Keats! Our new member count is now 6 so the promotional work we have been doing is paying off. I hope the new members will be able to join us when we host Raleigh FF from Tuesday 17th March on some of our programme Fran and I enjoyed the FFNZ biennial conference which was hosted by the Marlborough Club. It has been a great 2 days and our Marlborough friends did an excellent job of organising the gathering. A report on the highlights is elsewhere in this newsletter.

The conference was a chance to catch up with FF friends from around the country, to share ideas and also have some fun. We had lots of opportunity to chat with Jeremi Snook, CEO of FFI, and Kimberly Fraser, our Regional Support Manager and to discuss as a group the challenges facing Friendship Force now. It will be no surprise that the biggest of these worldwide is our ageing membership, and how to address this was discussed at length, with some innovative ideas coming forth. We need to think about how we talk about Friendship Force, how we explain what it is and what its mission is. Jeremi advised that FFI is looking at a brand refresh, i.e. the tagline, font, pictures etc. He reminded us that Wayne Smith said “A world of friends is a world of peace”, and maybe this is the sentence that describes what Friendship Force is all about. I came away with lots to think about, and also energised, and inspired.

Key Messages from the Conference

Journey surpluses should be spent on the Ambassadors wherever possible or refunded to them.

.

Domestic Journey fees. A pilot scheme to be run in NZ where the $15 NZ journey fee per night be deposited in an FF NZ bank account for the development of FF in NZ.

A request that the field reps look at a NZ wide outward journey open to anyone across NZ.

Consider changing the name of the bi annual NZ Conference to attract more members to attend. The leadership forum every other year was considered valuable and will continue to be held in Kapiti.

The Field Reps have proposed a national marketing campaign to raise the profile of Friendship Force.

Key messages from the Conference:

Kimberley advised that 2021 journey assignments will be out sometime in March. Coronavirus has had an impact.

Marketing and promotion ideas were shared with several new innovations for us to try.

Jeremi updated us on what FFI is doing. FFI is looking for one sentence to describe what FF is all about.

THE FRIENDSHIP FORCE PLEDGE

As a member of the Friendship Force I recognise that I can make a difference. I recognise that I have a mission.

That mission is to be a friend to the people of the world. As I embark on this adventure I know that others will be watching me.

I know that through my example to my fellow citizens and people of other countries, the cause of peace and friendship can be furthered.

I can make a difference.

It gives full details of Inbound/Outbound journeys of Australia and New Zealand Clubs in 2020. There might be something there that could interest you.

For our new members there is an opportunity to join some of the other journeys hosted by other Friendship Force Clubs. Check them out.
