    Sheddies’ Chatter

Welcome to the March 2019 Edition of Sheddies’ Chatter. The shocking events in Christchurch on 15th March have affected me, my friends and my family in many ways as I know it has affected most people in this country.

We can only hope that good will come out of it and that the evil will be over-shadowed by love and caring.

One of the wonderful things I have seen at our Shed is how accepting the members are of people from all walks of life.

I have witnessed some unusual discussions that have involved some very unusual beliefs and theories, but instead of ending up in a heated argument, the discussions just ambled around the table a few times and drifted along on to something else. It was certainly a very interesting experience!

    Solidarity and the events of

It is clear that these events do not reflect in any way the values or ideals of the Men's Shed North Shore. . If any of our members are feeling uncomfortable or just need someone to share their thoughts and feelings with, they can talk to any one of the Trustees.

Our door is always open to support our members and demonstrate our commitment to the ideals of the Shed.

The Shed is all about friendship and community spirit, and I hope that each of our members finds it to be just that too.

On 13th March we were visited by Teacher Derek Dallow and 3 students from Glenfield Primary School. They brought with them a beautiful thank you card made by students from the school to thank us for all the work that went into making the Connect Four sets. Wrench Collection Part 4

The last part of our collection is a set of Stilsons.

“Stilson” is actually a brand name, but for years the name

has been used to describe a type of pipe wrench

1-2: 2 Record brand wrenches, drop forged, made in England. 1 small 8in and another 14in, both in great condition.

3-6: 4 Neuropa brand, Made in Germany. 2x14in, 2x18in, all in good condition.

    7: A 14in marked 4114 USA Forged Steel,

8: A large 24in EGD Made in Spain,

    9: A 10in OSKO made in Japan.

All these are quite old, some vintage but all in good condition and refurbished by us.

If you have any old spanners you don’t want we would be

happy to look at them and perhaps add to our sale, or if you

are interested in any of these please contact us.

Many thanks to Roger Dallimore for supplying this article

Roger Dallimore has been busy cleaning up some wrenches and researching their history and background. This is the final part of the collection

The wrenches were all donated to the Shed. They were going to be displayed in a cabinet, however space does not permit so we will put them up for sale on Trade Me as most of them are collectors’ items.

There are 3 types: wrenches, water pump spanners and adjustable Stilson types.

He was first asked to join Swiss entry Team Alinghi in 2003 and has been in every Americas cup since then.

He was in charge of building the computer hardware that ran the Control systems and maintaining the electronics.

He was also involved in building the electronics for the 27 weather buoys that sent weather data to all the teams on the race courses.

In the Americas cup in Valencia between Alinghi and oracle Barry built the electronics for the land stations in and around Valencia that measured weather data and sent it back to Teams.
