These folks have put in many, many hours getting the advertising and membership data collected and organized for the 2019 Membership Directory. Toni dove right in with the responsibility of the Membership Directory production, with Bob Martin, Mary Claesson and Mike Forsyth hustling up the advertisers. Toni was able to use the Publisher computer program with very little help and put together a great looking directory. Dana and Debbie worked many hours verifying member information, making calls to members, ensuring that the information was correct. The directory is at the printers but will need at least one more round of proofing before it can be printed for distribution. We will keep you posted as to when the directory will be ready. We’ve had two successful caravans since the last edition of the Wheel Prints. I’ve heard from folks who were on each and they were full of praise to both Tom and Janice Ohl and Clint and Toni Viergutz. We have more caravans and rallies on the schedule for the future. It’s wonderful to see new Caravan and Rally Leaders taking on these events. I’m excited about the Tonopah Grand Rally that is coming up in just a few weeks. That was the first Caravan/Rally Mike and I attended. We had a blast and met some of the nicest people we’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. It was the motivation for us to get more involved in the club and look at us today!!!! I hope new members who are planning on going to Tonopah will feel the same motivation. Please feel free to contact me if you have questions or concerns about our club, if you have a great idea for a caravan or rally, or anything you feel you want to share with me or the club. I want to start my comments this month with a big shout out to Toni Viergtuz, Debbie Edwards and Dana Sledd.

ENTERTAINMENT MEMBERSHIP REPORT

By Linda Sledd, Entertainment Director

Entertainment for the March 5th General Business Meeting/Potluck Dinner will be a performance by Mike Linder. Mike is the President of the Karaoke Club and in the past year he has performed for several SCW Clubs including PEO Chapters, Zymurgy Club and at the Kuentz Courtyard to name a few. He was recommended to me by a friend who heard him sing at the Palo Verde Patchers Club Christmas Luncheon last year. I, for one, am looking forward to having him entertain us at our upcoming meeting. Hopefully, he’ll incorporate a few Irish tunes to go along with the St. Patrick’s Day theme. April is traditionally the month the RV Club has chosen for the catered Luau along with some kind of Hawaiian dancing and/or music. I’m in the process of gathering quotes on pricing for the catered meal and contacting the different groups that could perform. For the May Meeting/Potluck, I’m planning a Mexican themed entertainment to celebrate Cinco De Mayo. Just for fun, we all could bring a Mexican dish to the potluck dinner on May 7th. Hope to see everyone at the March 5th General Business Meeting and Potluck Dinner!

By Debbie Edwards, Membership Director

I hope you all had a happy Valentine's Day. We currently have 242 members in the club. Our January 8th General Business/Potluck Meeting was attended by 75 members. We had two guests that evening, Nancy and Dean Radtke, friends of the Lovitt’s, and Ron and Sandy Lotz. Jim Manske volunteered as a greeter and helped me with renewals. Thank you all for the help. Our January 22nd Caravan meeting was attended by 131 members (nice to see you all), and two guests: Gene O'Connell and John Richardson. I didn't write down the names of those who helped as greeters, but thank you – I didn't forget the help, just forgot to write down who it was. We had no new members during the month of January, and actually there were many members who did not renew. This would be a good time to spread the word about us and our club to all those you know who have RV’s, and those who like to be social. Remember, even if you no longer have an RV, you can still be a Social Member and take part in the many non-RVing activities that the club has to offer.

SUNSHINE MEMBERSHIP DIRECTORY UPDATE

Mary Claesson will be our new Sunshine Chair.

You can contact Mary throughout the year by

email to [email protected], or cell phone

630-707-0879.

• A card was sent to Bud McClintock who

had surgery.

When you notify Mary about a person who is no longer a club member but still deserves a card, please provide her with a current address.

By Toni Viergutz, VP Administration

The Membership Directory is now at the printers. I need to give a big "thank you" to Nadene for helping out while I was away on the Yuma Caravan. She picked up the first proof so that I would have it when I returned and has been a huge help in getting it this far along. We hope to have it out to the members soon! All advertiser fees have been collected for 2019, and we have at least 2 more advertisers who want to be in the 2020 Directory but were too late to get in for 2019. If you know anyone who might want to advertise with us, please have them contact me at 602-803-2339.

CARAVAN REPORT

By Tom Ohl, VP Caravans

Well, our caravan season sure seems to have matched up with “old man winter.” The Yuma Caravan, so ably led by Clint and Toni Viergutz, found some cold and windy conditions in normally sunny Yuma!! But the club’s new firepots proved to be up to the task of warming up the nightly happy hour! This was Toni and Clint’s first caravan and they did a magnificent job of organizing and educating all of us about the Yuma area history and economic importance to Arizona. Our RV Club members are not ones that let weather slow us down!!

Next up is the 9th Annual Grand Rally in Tonopah, March 7th thru the 10th! This is the 9th annual rally to the Saddle Mountain RV Park, and the theme this year is “Bingo, Bingo, Bingo”

.

Clint and Toni have been very busy planning and organizing several events for the club this year. Their next special event is Turf Paradise on March 19th where everyone can try their luck with the ponies!!

April will be your chance to learn about our Arizona Indian Heritage with Tom and Diane Metzger. Their rally is scheduled for April 14th thru the 18th in the Sedona area.

We are working (arm twisting) to come up with an event for May that will cap off our season before the HOT season is upon us! If you have an idea, please let me know. If you can, plan your summer trips to coincide with John and Gloria Fried on their trip, “New York State of Mind,” Aug. 13th thru Sept 3rd. They will educate and entertain you about New York state history and culture!! When you return in the fall, plan to attend two November events: Barleen’s Arizona Opry and Star Gazing at Alamo Lake State Park. So check your calendars, tune up your rigs, and sign up for all that tickle your fancy!

Remember, we are an RV Club, and we love to explore and travel with our friends!!!!

These are the folks who went to Yuma with Toni & Clint Viergutz.

BOARD MEMBER BIO CLASSIFIEDS

A few board members and support staff have generously shared their bio information. Here is another one.

Dana Sledd

Dana Sledd is our Webmaster and his past professional experience makes him perfectly suitable for taking on the club website. He has been able to jump right in and between Debbie Edwards and him, the membership information in the 2019 directory should be as close to perfect as is humanly possible. Dana is from the Seattle, WA area where he worked for Boeing Defense and Space division for 34 years as a Software Engineer and worked on the Space Shuttle and military defense systems during his time at Boeing. In 2009 he and his wife, Linda, purchased a home in SCW and began snow-birding. They now live here full time. After RV'ing for many years this is his first experience in an RV Club. He and Linda went on their first caravan in January to Coachella Valley, CA and enjoyed it immensely. They are officially hooked!
