We have had a pretty amazing 14 days at Reservoir where a large number of our students were able to see the Melbourne production of Kinky Boots. Tickets were generously donated by Callum Francis or Lola as he is known in the play. Our students loved the show and were surprised when they had the chance to meet Callum and the other lead Toby Francis at the Stage Door at the end of the evening. Twenty Four hours later the whole school was treated to a visit by 15 of the cast when they participated in our Fair Go Sport Athletics Day in Epping. Not only did they speak to our students but they then spent three and half hours participating in the sports and joining in – culminating in two heats of the Kinky Boots 100 metres! Throughout this experience, we were contacted by the ABC and they have made two documentaries about our visit to the theatre and the cast visit to Fair Go Sport Athletics Day. One is a radio feature and the other is a short video. Both of these have already been emailed to families via COMPASS, but I will include them here just in case you have not had the chance to see or hear them. Congratulations to Darebin who this year won the trophy with a massive total of 1069 points. Many thanks to Mr Todorovski and his PE/Sport staff who spent many hours preparing for the day. Also thanks to all staff who worked together to enable the day to run so smoothly. A special mention should, go to Mr George Lyras who broadcasted the day with such aplomb! I would also like to thank our Fair Go Sport Ambassadors for their work advertising the event and speaking to classes. Special thanks go to our Flash Mob students who created a dynamic and spectacular opening to our special day. The cast from Kinky Boots were very impressed with their level of skill and commitment. Please share as far as you can. https://www.facebook.com/ABCRNLifeMatters/videos/10153731051267465/ http://www.abc.net.au/radionational/programs/lifematters/kinky-boots-and-athletic-tracks/8339802

We held our largest and most successful Grade 5 Day in the history of the school last week. We were visited by nearly 500 Grade 5 students from surrounding schools. They had a fantastic day sampling what Reservoir High does so well – our teaching and learning! All staff and over 50 Year 7 students assisted to make this day a very memorable one for everyone concerned. Thank you to Mr Darryl Forbes and his Junior School team for their months of work planning and organising the day. Many thanks to our primary school visitors both students and teachers for their determination to get as much out of the day as possible. Every student joined in with every activity. From the smiles on their tired faces at the end of the day, we knew that they had had a great day experienc-ing secondary school life. Many thanks also to our tal-ented music, drama and dance students who performed so well in our Performing Arts Centre.

LORD OF THE FLIES
We wish Michael Russo and Damian Seddon all the very best as they perform from April 5-9th in the Australian premiere of Lord of the Flies. This production has travelled the world and we look forward to seeing them perform at the Arts Centre. Congratulations. A special ticket price has been offered by the Publicity Department which I have sent all families via COMPASS this week.
RESERVOIR HIGH SCHOOL TOURS
This year has commenced with at least two tours per week of prospective students and their parents and guardians. This week over 20 people arrived for the Wednesday tour and they saw the school at first hand. The group of interested students and parents visited classes and spoke with current students. Some acted as Tour Guides (Angela, Razan, Daphene and Chloe) accompanying the Principal and staff around the school. We even had an impromptu discussion with Sunny Salioski (Year 12 School Captain) about what makes Reservoir High so special! As Principal I always feel very proud taking visitors on tours of our school. If you would like a tour of the school, please either sign up via our website or contact the General Office. Tours are always held on a Wednesday, but other days can be easily negotiated if necessary. We are very proud of our school and want to share the Reservoir High experience with the local community.
SCHOOL COUNCIL NEWS Congratulations to Ms Irene Brown and Ms Stephanie Walker for successfully nominating for our two parent positions on School Council. Both School Councillors have children in Year 7 this year. We welcome them to Council and look forward to working with them throughout their term. I would also like to congratulate Ms Nina Rossini who has successfully nominated for the DET position on School Council.
A PIECE OF WRITING WHICH MAKES YOU THINK!
I always enjoy visiting classes and reading student work. I had the opportunity to read a moving piece of writing which was written in Ms Angela Neophytou’s class during the special Cultural Diversity Week. I think it is a particularly moving piece of writing, which made me think deeply about Cultural Diversity Week at Reservoir High and also the state of our current political debate.
This is piece written by Calvin: It was a stormy night when he had to move because of the Vietnam War. He was forced to take the last ship. The ship was going to Australia. The Communists were coming. He was going to miss Vietnam. Australia had been accepting refugees. He was my dad.

Cultural Diversity Lunch As our school sign said “Cultural Diversity At Reservoir High Means The World To Us” and what a wonderful day it was on March 21st. We shared a marvellous lunch together with students from around the world. Many thanks to Ms Voula Tsolakas and her team of staff and all the students and their families who contributed so many delicious foods for us to share.
This day is one I always look forward to as it epitomises why our school is so special. As I have said many times – the world could learn so much from our experience as members of the Reservoir High community. Well done to everyone concerned.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS
This term seems to have disappeared in the blink of an eye. I would like to wish everyone a safe and restful break and look forward to seeing all back on deck on TUESDAY, April 18th – yes one additional day of holiday for Easter.

Year 8 News
Our Year 8 cohort visited Melbourne Zoo to consider why some animals have become endangered and what the threats are to their survival. Each class visited a special education classroom where zoo staff engaged students by giving them a mystery bag with clues to identify one of the endangered species. Students were also able to touch a snake and had the opportunity to participate in the Zoo Quest. Congratulations to Hani Ataish of 8C and his group for a great win. The boys will receive their prize at the next General Assembly. Students had a great day out and enjoyed their visit. Next term sees Year 8’s involved in Medieval Day. This is an incursion at school which enhances studies being undertaken in Humanities.
Junior Interschool Sport Many Junior teams have represented Reservoir High School in interschool sporting competitions throughout Term 1. Teams participated in tennis, baseball, softball, cricket and volleyball. All students represented the school in excellent spirit and demonstrated terrific fair play and respect. Congratulations to all students and teams who have participated in Sport in Term 1 and many thanks to all staff who have coached, assisted and supported teams. Please contact the Junior school at any time should you have any concerns, feedback or query.

MIDDLE SCHOOL REPORT
Diversity Excellence Success
And just like that......Term 1 has finished and we head into the Easter holidays. Life in the Middle School is fast paced, not leaving much time to stop pause and reflect. We do however cater for this with Parent / Teacher interviews happening this week on Wednesday March 29. This is a fantastic opportunity for families to sit with teachers and discuss their child’s progress. As a school we value this forum for discussion and feedback. Families can make appointments by logging onto Compass. Should assistance be required please don’t hesitate to contact Ms Di Marco in the Middle School Office. In week 5 of Term 2 Year 10’s spend the week on Work Experience. Students should be actively se-curing their placement and ensuring forms are signed and returned to the Careers Team by the second week of Term 2. Should assistance be required Mr Devine can be contacted in the Careers Team. During week 4 of Term 2 Year 9’s will be sitting their Naplan tests. This provides the school with important data relating to where each child is placed with regards to reading, writing, compre-hension and numeracy. Staff can access these results to better inform their curriculum delivery. Finally on behalf of the Middle School we’d like to wish all families a safe and restful holiday. Please remember Term 2 begins on TUESDAY 18th of APRIL. Kind regards Middle School Team

Amelia: Our Fair Go Sports Athletics day is a day that we really celebrate the ideals of ‘a fair go’ for everyone. When we launch the rainbow of balloons it’s our way of showing our support for diversity.
Ayden: The aim of Fair Go Sport is for us all to really work together at making this a school where everyone feels safe and included, where everyone knows they are entitled to be respected for who they are.

SENIOR SCHOOL REPORT
Diversity Excellence Success
Dear Senior School Community, It is hard to believe we are already at the end of Term one. It has been a very busy and productive term in the senior school and we’re sure the students and teachers are looking forward to two weeks break to recharge before what we’re sure will be a busier Term. Our Year 12 students are now essentially a third of the way through their course and it will be exam time before we know it.
Since our last newsletter the senior students have continued to work well in the classroom. The students studying a Unit 3 subject have been undertaking SACs which will contribute to their study score. It is vital students are well prepared for these tasks so they can get the best possible result. They should listen to feedback/guidance from their teacher on practice tasks and apply this for the assessment task. If at any time students are unsure, advice should be sought from the teacher to ensure they have every opportunity to do well.
Even though it’s only the end of March, it’s really important students in the senior school are undertaking exam revision. Getting into good study habits now will greatly help in October/November when the external exams are completed. Students need to ensure they have a clear understanding of what the exam question is asking them and are aware of what the subject specific vocabulary is. If students can correctly put the exam question into their own words they are well on they way to understanding the requirements of the question and hopefully answering it correctly. Obtaining past exams and assessment reports from the VCAA website is a great place to begin.
Even though the holidays are a great time to relax
and recharge it’s also a great opportunity to get a
jump on Term 2. Completing pre-reading is a great
way to get a basic understanding on the topics to
be covered. Any specific holiday homework must
be completed to help get through Unit 1 or 3 in a
speedier fashion. Any holiday homework not
completed when we get back will require the
student to attend a Saturday morning catch up
session early Term 2.
We wish all the students and families a great break and to everyone who celebrates Easter a Happy Easter.
Kind Regards Senior School Team

OUTDOOR EDUCATION CLASS

Surfing at Anglesea On Wednesday the 22nd of February, Year 10 Outdoor Ed went on a surfing excursion to Anglesea with Ms Zahra and Mr Devine. After some unfortunate traffic, we got our wetsuits and boards and headed over to the sandy shore to begin practising how to stand on the board. The majority of students got to experience standing up and riding a wave for the first time, which for many was a thrilling and proud moment. We had to practise water safety skills, navigate our way around each other and make sure to stay between the flags. After a couple of hours in the sun, we packed up and headed home. Even though we got stuck on the way home due to a bus malfunction we all still had a great day/night and have memories that will last a lifetime. Menekse Ozdemir 10A

They worked collabora-tively on exercises to help them generate storylines to interpret the stimulus material. They will now be embarking on script writing and improvising scenes to put their ideas together for the performance with other schools in June. Nina Rossini Drama Teacher
