President’s Corner

By: Jack Klauschie RCBPREZ

You probably are wondering

why in the world I would post

this photo for the March

President’s Corner. It has

nothing to do with the

weather this weekend. In

fact, the photo was taken in

late May, not early March. I

wrote before about why I

stay involved in RCB. It’s

certainly the friendships and

camaraderie, but there is so

much more. There is the

peace of mind, for me and

those at home, that comes

from the knowledge RCB

riding Buddies are not going

to leave me behind if I have

a mechanical. It’s sharing a

beer, and getting hypnotized

by the flickering of a

campfire after a robust day

on curvy two lane. There is

the joy that comes from

listening to unfathomable BS

and the occasional gut

splitting joke around a

campfire. Altogether, it’s

about MAKIN’ MEMORIES.

You can start making yours

this coming weekend by

participating in the Whale

Watch Ride to Mendocino

(ride or drive), or by joining

us in any of the rides

planned for the summer. If

you have ideas, send me a

message or come to a Board

meeting.

Motor Safety Class - March 25 @ 2PM at A&S

Greg Peart, a longtime member of RCB and retired CHP Motor Officer, has given motorcycle rider safety talks at the 49er

Rally and Beemer Bash for many years. We asked him to do a talk for RCB. A & S graciously agreed to host the event.

Greg will give an approximate 1 ½ hour safety talk designed for the motorcycle rider to enhance street safety awareness.

The information is a conglomerate of the best things a long-time rider and retired California Highway Patrol Motor

Officer feels would help the street rider. After the 1st hour of seminar, Greg will answer the top most asked questions of

a CHP Motor Officer. There should be time after that for questions and answers from you the rider. Greg will discuss the

new California 2017 phone law and lane splitting law too.

Greg's Resume:

Greg Peart was a Certified Motor Training Officer retiring from the CHP after 25 years working in the San Francisco,

Redwood City and Martinez offices. His last 18 yrs. were spent in the South Sacramento Office. The last 13 of those yrs.

he was a motor Officer. Greg also worked 6 yrs. for the Anderson Police Dept. and was a motor Officer there as well. He

is currently a part time motor Officer for the Cal Expo State Fair Police Dept. in Sacramento, Ca. Greg has provided

TV/photo bike support for over 20 years at bicycle and marathon race/events like the Amgen Tour of California (10

years)/USA Pro Challenge of Colorado/Tour of Utah and Escape from Alcatraz. He has worked for TV and has two movies

under his belt The Ride and LE Ride by Phil Keoghan of The Amazing Race. Greg rode the video motor that filmed each of

the movies month long, day & night filming scenes. Greg is also a motor support for USA Cycling. He has also driven the

men’s lead vehicle that provides TV coverage of the New York Marathon for 10 years. Greg subbed for another rider one

year at the Boston Marathon for the TV moto coverage. Greg has ridden on vacation in Europe, Mexico, Canada, Hawaii

and New Zealand. Greg is an accomplished Iron Butt Association Rider with his last ride accomplishment being Prudhoe

Bay, Alaska to Key West, Florida.

10th Annual Whale of a Tour B&B ride in March

By Greg Peart

March 10, 11 & 12,

Friday/Saturday/Sunday, 2017

Greg & Cyndee Peart have hosted the first

big RBC ride of the year now for 10 years.

Destination has always been the beautiful

Sea Gull Inn bed & breakfast in Mendocino.

This tour was conceived 10 years ago during

Manchester beach campout to be a couple’s

tour, rain or shine, non-campout & a first

tour RBC ride of each year. As always, we

plan to stay with Jim and Ayla Douglas at

March 2017

the Sea Gull Inn of Mendocino. The rooms

are blocked off, so reservations must be

made by calling: The Sea Gull Inn at: 888-

937-5204. Let them know you are with the River City Beemers and you will receive 15% off the standard weekend rate,

there is a 2-night minimum stay for this

event. Your first night rate will be charged

as a deposit when the reservation is made

and the balance required at check-in. If we

exceed the Inns 9 room limit, Jim or Ayla

will assist you in obtaining lodging close by

in town. We have never needed more than 9

rooms so far. As in past events, this will be a

very easy going weekend. Activities depend

on the weather, size & wishes of the group.

The inn is a beautiful place to just chill.

Mendocino is a historic district, small

coastal town that is just wonderful to stroll

about, watch the migrating whales, shop,

and just relax. This tour is designed for

couples & is a hit with the ladies. Need I

mention the fabulous breakfast delivered to

your room each morning? As in past years

we will again enjoy a group cocktail party

each night prior to departing for dinner.

The Plan: Check out The Sea Gull INN at:

www.seagullbb.com , then call 888-937-

5204 to make your Own Reservation. Then,

Call Greg Peart 916-870-7841 & leave

contact # or email him at:

[email protected] that you are going

with us. Cutoff date for reservations will be:

8PM, Thursday, February 17, 2017. On

Friday, March 10th, meet at 8 AM (if you

want breakfast) or 9 AM wheels up/full tank

at the EPPIES Restaurant in West Sac.

Take West Capitol off ramp from W/b I-80

(at the east end of the Yolo causeway).

Make a left turn at end of ramp and go under

the I-80 overcrossing. Turn right at the 2nd

right turn onto Lake Rd. The NEW EPPIES

is behind the Subway Sandwich shop 1st left

driveway on Lake Rd. Signs are hard to see.

Greg’s cell phone: 916-870-7841. This is a

rain or shine event, cars welcome if needed

for any reason.

previous week by the participants. Participation

varies between three and 30 riders depending on the

time of year and the weather. And yes, we ride in

rain and during holiday periods although the groups

tend to be smaller and the destinations closer by.

But through it all, we haven't missed a Wednesday

in over two years!

our forum on the previous Monday or Tuesday.

socialize with your friends. Attendance is usually

Leaves Susie’s at 9:00am on meeting days

What's better, after breakfast, than a spirited ride

through the beautiful NorCal roads we've been

blessed with? Except for special events, the rides

are generally 2-3 hours in length, cover 100-200

miles, and end with a lunch at some destination.

The rides are generally "spirited" but if we get

enough participation, we generally add a second,

more relaxed-pace group. Clutch out is 9:00AM or

when the monthly meeting ends, whichever is later,

and ride sheets are usually distributed prior to

departure. Please show up with a full tank of gas.

Check the forum for details of the ride.

Here is a link from our northern club representative Tom Moe. Take a look and see what Montana has to offer. https://mtbmwriders.org/Newsletters.html

As always if anyone has something that would like published, travel report, pictures of events, how to articles, etc. Please send them and I will get them published.

Please Check the Forum often to stay updated on club functions and events.
