Have you wondered why Guided Travel? Why Collette Vacations? There are so many benefits to letting someone else take on all the details that come with having The Perfect Trip. Some of the wonderful benefits are having a TOUR MANAGER. With their rich travel backgrounds, as

well as their useful information about language, currency, and all things local, you can relax and enjoy the ride. The SOCIAL aspect. Guided travel is extra social. Meet a cast of characters: your

fellow travelers, tour manager, driver, local guides and more. The social aspect of guided travel is one of the best parts! Many travelers on our tours have forged lasting friendships. WORRY FREE: Your

peace of mind is the most important thing to us. And that starts with our round trip home to airport sedan service. Forget taxis, airport fees, or public transportation. We will get you there...and back. And if for any reason you need to cancel your tour, you can do so — right up until the day before departure — and receive a full refund (thanks to our travel protection plan).

*All Collette Vacations trips are open to the general public.

Full itineraries are available in the Senior Center Lobby.

Booking your trip through the Senior Center helps raise funds for

our programming and activities. For more info, contact Penny at

AARP SMART DRIVER COURSE at the Manitowoc Senior Center

Wednesday, May 13th 8am to 12:30pm Cost: $15/AARP Mbr $20/Non-Mbr

Why Take the AARP Smart Driver Course? The AARP Smart Driver™ Course is the nation‟s first and largest refresher

course for drivers age 50 and older. It has given millions of drivers the skills and tools they need to drive safely on today‟s roads, allowing them to

remain independent for many years to come. In fact, 97% of those who take it change at least one driving behavior. And the best part? There are no tests to pass - just useful information to keep you safe on the road!.

Cars have changed. So have traffic rules, driving conditions and the roads you travel each day.

Some drivers age 50-plus have never looked back since they got their first driver's license, but even

the most experienced drivers can benefit from brushing up on their driving skills.

By taking a driver safety course you'll learn the current rules of the road, defensive driving techniques and how to operate your vehicle more safely in today's increasingly challenging driving environment. You'll learn how you can manage and accommodate common age-related changes in

vision, hearing and reaction time. In addition, you'll learn:

How to minimize the effects of dangerous blind spots

How to maintain the proper following distance behind another car

The safest ways to change lanes and make turns at busy intersections

Proper use of safety belts, air bags, antilock brakes and new technology found in cars today

Ways to monitor your own and others' driving skills and capabilities

The effects of medications on driving

The importance of eliminating distractions, such as eating, smoking and using a cellphone

After completing the course, you will have a greater appreciation of driving challenges and a better understanding of how to avoid potential collisions and injuring yourself or others.

Also, after completing the course you‟ll receive a certificate of completion that can be present-ed to your insurance agent for a possible reduction in your auto insurance premiums.

CALL 686-3060 to sign up for the class today! Payment can be made the day of class.

Ingredients * DIABETIC *

1 egg (or equivalent in egg substitute) 1/4 cup reduced-fat peanut butter

1 cup banana, mashed 1/4 cup skim milk 1 tbsp. sugar substitute

1 cup flour 1tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp baking soda

Directions

Preheat oven to 350°. Spray an 8x8 pan with cooking spray. In a large bowl, combine egg, peanut butter and bananas. Mix well. Stir in

milk. In a small bowl, combine sugar substitute, flour, baking powder and baking

soda. Slowly add to wet mixture. Evenly spread batter into prepared pan. Bake for 20 minutes. Cut into 8 bars. (Be sure your

sugar substitute is suitable for baking.)

Ingredients

3 cups chopped fresh Portobello mushrooms 1 cup chopped fresh shiitake mushrooms

1 cup chopped fresh cremini mushrooms 1 can (16 oz) fat-free beef broth 1/4 cup thinly sliced shallots

2 large cloves garlic, chopped 1/2 tsp paprika

1/2 cup reduced-fat ricotta cheese

Directions

Place the mushrooms, broth, shallots, garlic

and paprika in the top of a double boiler. Cover, bring the water in the bottom to a boil, and then reduce the heat to simmer.

Cook just until the mushrooms are tender and give up some of their liquid, about 10 minutes. Stir in the cheese. Heat until the

soup is steaming hot, but not boiling.

What is Beet Kvass? It is an age-old fermented tonic associated with many health benefits including efficient hydration. Kvass is

more hydrating than even water. And helps restore the balance of electrolytes without the sugar and preservatives of modern „sport drinks‟. Beet Kvass is traditionally heralded as a blood and liver

tonic. Beets are high in betacyanin which can dramatically increase the oxygen-carrying ability of the blood. Beet kvass is deeply earthy, richly pigmented and an excellent tonic to

promote good digestion and overall wellness. The fermentation process enhances the already strong nutritional profile of raw beets, increasing levels of food enzymes and B vitamins (particularly folate). It also inoculates the beets with beneficial bacteria which support

immunity and digestive system health.

Beet Kvass Ingredients: * Filtered Water * 3-4 Beets * 1-1/2 Tbsp Unrefined Sea Salt and a 2qt Mason Jar with lid. Optional: Ginger, cloves, allspice, coriander, cardamom or

orange peel to flavor. Use as much or little as you like to taste.

Beet Kvass Method:

1. Wash the beets of any dirt. If organic, don‟t scrub or peel them. Our aim is to keep the delicate bacteria on the skin of the beets intact so that we can encourage their multiplication during fermentation. If not organic, peel them. 2. Chop the beets into a medium dice. 3.

Add the beets to a 2Qt jar. 4. Add 1-1/2 Tbsp unrefined salt 5. Add filtered water to 1/2 inch below lid of 2qt Mason jar. 6. Affix lid tightly and label with date. 7. Allow to

ferment for 2-3 days in a cool place out of direct sunlight. 8. After 2-3 days, transfer to the refrigerator. Drink 4oz per day or more and Enjoy! You can start a 2nd ferment by leaving a little of the kvass in the jar with the beets, refilling it with filtered water and letting it sit for

another 2-3 days. The 2nd ferment won‟t be as strong, but still good for you :)

Come to the Fermented Foods Presenta-tion on Tue. March 24th at 1pm.

See cover page for details.

The Red Hat Valentine Party was held on Friday Feb 13th. We started a new tradition by singing a song. In March we might sing two songs. The hostesses were Kathy Fischer, Audrey Behnke and Shirley Oswald. They had delicious snacks and desserts. February birthdays were Irene Kotarek, Barb Zipperer and Gloria Mankins. Assistant Queen Kathy had a lot of things to discuss. Roorbachs did not have a bus scheduled for the Chicago Flower Show. She asked for and received support for the Red

Hatters having a display at the Rahr Museum Place Setting Exhibit and for monies to be used if needed. Red Hatters who have not paid their dues, please do so. The hostess list is very incomplete and needs to be updated. Kathy Fischer, Audrey Behnke and Terry Prigge have taken it upon themselves to update the Hostess and Birthday lists. At the March Tea I will have a list of programs and speakers that are available. If any of you know of any programs or speakers, please let me know and I will add them to the list. We showed the Valentines we re-ceived and read the poems we had composed. They will be included in the Chit Chat. The Red Hat State convention will be held in the Dells the weekend of May 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Bonnie Willems talked about how much fun the ladies have. Bonnie and I are planning on going. We played Red Hat races. Hat number 6 was a speed demon. The last race was so stressful as there were four hats at the very end. The race ended up like the Superbowl, with the hat one place out of winning, won. The hostess for March is Delores Boeckman. She will be helped by Diane Cisler, Evie Schnieder and Gloria Mankins. The March luncheon will be at Shooter Malones on Friday the 20th.

P.S. I Love You Tue. March 17th at 1pm Holly Kennedy (Hilary Swank) is beautiful, smart and married to the love of her life - a passionate, funny, and impetuous

Irishman named Gerry (Gerard Butler). So when Gerry's life is taken by an illness, it takes the life out of Holly. The only one

who can help her is the person who is no longer there. Nobody knows

Holly better than Gerry. So it's a good thing he planned ahead. Before he died, Gerry wrote Holly a series of letters that will guide her, not

only through her grief, but in rediscovering herself. The first message arrives on Holly's 30th birthday in the form of a cake, and to her utter shock, a tape recording from Gerry, who proceeds to tell her to get out

and "celebrate herself". In the weeks and months that follow, more letters from Gerry are delivered in surprising ways, each sending her on a new adventure and each signing off in the same way; P.S. I Love

You. Holly's mother and best friends begin to worry that Gerry's letters are keeping Holly tied to the past, but in fact, each letter is pushing her

further into a new future. With Gerry's words as her guide, Holly embarks on a journey of rediscovery in a story about marriage, friendship and how a love so strong can turn the finality of death into a new beginning for life. Rated PG-13, 2HR 7Min. Drama, Comedy, Romance
