College Basketball coined the phrase “March Madness” to define their postseason play. Between the abundance of tournament games and all the excitement that goes along with the unpredictability of the bracket, it can only be described as madness! The month of March at Mt. Carmel Community at The Village is full of excitement too, especially leading up to St. Patrick’s Day. We’ll be singing Irish songs, crafting shamrock bracelets, enjoying St. Patrick-themed activities including a spelling bee, Irish trivia, and an afternoon “green” tea party complete with shamrock cookies!

On St. Patrick’s Day, Tuesday, March 17th, we are having a St. Patrick’s Day Celebration at 3:00, featuring the music of Jeffro Hyde, fun trivia facts, and good food! Bring along your lucky rabbit’s foot, four-leaf clover, or lucky charm because we’ll be drawing for prizes! Be sure you are wearing green and come join the fun as we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day the Mt. Carmel way!

Easter falls on the first Sunday in April this year so we’ll have to begin celebrating in March in order to do it justice! Join us in the theater room for the classic musical Easter Parade featuring music by Irving Berlin, Fred Astaire’s dancing and the singing talent of Judy Garland on Tuesday afternoon, March 24th. Our Palm Sunday Service will put us in mind of the true meaning of Easter as we worship together on the fifth Sunday. We’ll be playing “Easter Bingo” on Tuesday, March 31st to kick off an afternoon of holiday fun! Our Easter Celebration will follow in the dining room and will feature special music and festive food. Be sure that you don’t miss any of these special March activities!

Special Days in March

If you have hearing loss, it’s important that you be proactive in seeking treatment. Hearing loss can be mild, moderate, severe or profound and can be caused by a variety of conditions. Simply removing a blockage from the ear canal can often immediately restore hearing. There are also medical treatments that can improve hearing. For those with age related hearing loss, proper frequency amplification brings amazing results in both hearing sounds and understanding speech. A regained sense of hearing allows us to re-engage in life. Being able to hear warning signals, understand instructions, enjoy TV and communicate with friends and family are just a few of the benefits of improved hearing. We are pleased to have a free in-house monthly hearing clinic that is conducted by C.W. Darby of Mobile Hearing Solutions. This month he will be in the Garden Home Clubhouse on Wednesday, March 18th. He would love to meet you!

Time will spring forward one hour on Sunday, March 8th. Daylight Saving Time starts on the second Sunday in March and ends the first Sunday in November. Winston Churchill once described Daylight Saving Time as, “an extra yawn one morning in the springtime, an extra snooze one night in the autumn.” The discomfort of losing one hour of sleep is well worth the extra hour of precious sunlight we get to enjoy everyday until November! Set your clock ahead one hour at bedtime on Saturday, March 7th.
