Dear Panther Families:
Village Elementary School, everyone is focused on educating and ensuring that the needs of each child are meet. We are doing this while maintaining high quality instruction, continuous improvement and ongoing, effective communication.
Last month, our students participated in the Annual Black History celebration. It included various components of the arts and history. Students displayed their hard work by successfully performing for the community and for our school. Thank you, to everyone that participated in our Black History celebration, for your tireless efforts toward making our Black History show a great success.
This year, all third, fourth and Iifth grade students will take the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) during the window of April 15-‐26th. Parents, please ensure that your children are in attendance during these days. For Iifth grade only, the FCAT for Math will be administered on the computer. In preparation, students have been given the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the options and functions of the computer based assessment. They also had the opportunity to take practice tests on the computer.
Parents, please continue to assist us by making sure that your child is reading everyday, practicing math facts and completing assignments using the skills they have learned in the classrooms. At Village Elementary, we do our best to provide a meaningful and relevant education for your child, your continued assistance is greatly appreciated. Together we can make a difference in the lives of all our children.
If you have any questions, please feel free to give me a call at 754-‐322-‐8750.
Respectfully yours,Deborah A. Peeples Deborah A. Peeples Principal

1. Make sure your child attends school regularly. Remember that tests reflect the overall
achievement of your child. The more often the child is in a learning situation, the more likely he/she will do well on tests.
2. Give your child encouragement. Praise him/her for the things done well throughout the year. A child who is afraid of failing is more likely to make a mistake.
3. See that your child has a well-rounded diet. A healthy body leads to a healthy, active mind.
4. See that your child completes homework assignments. Homework supports classroom instruction and can help your child increase his/her comprehension of the classroom work.
5. Meet with your childʼs teacher(s) as often as possible to discuss your childʼs progress. Parents and teachers should work together to benefit the child.
6. Ask the teacher(s) to suggest activities for you to do at home with your child. Such activities can help your child improve his/her understanding of school work.
7. Make sure your child is well rested on school days. Children who are tired are less likely to pay attention in class or to handle the demands of classwork and tests.
8. Try not to be overly anxious about test scores. Too much emphasis on test scores can be upsetting to children.
9. Find out which tests your child will take and for what purposes. The school principal and counselor should provide you with a schedule of testing for the year and explain the use of the tests.
10. Make sure your child arrives on time for school.
11. See that your child dresses comfortably. Students should wear clothes that are comfortable and appropriate for the weather.
12. If your child wears a hearing aid or glasses, be sure he/she remembers to use them during all testing sessions.
13. Make sure your child receives any necessary test taking accommodations.
14. Remember, make sure that your child is well rested and has a healthy breakfast on the day of the test.

New Kindergarten & First Grade Pick-up Area
As a result of comments and suggestions from you, we have moved the afternoon dismissal area for our Kindergarten and First Grade students. Parents who are picking up a Kindergartner or First Grader will have to use the parking lot on 69th Avenue. Please enter on 69th Avenue. Siblings will be sent to sit with the Kindergartner or First Grader, so parents will only have to make one trip around the campus. This relocation process will speed up the car pick-up process and alleviate some of the traffic at the front of the school at dismissal time. All parents must have their child’s identification card which will have their child’s name and teacher listed. If you need a name tag for your vehicle, please notify your child’s teacher so that we can provide you with one.

Students must wear uniforms on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, but on Fridays, students can wear their Village Panther T-‐Shirts or their favorite outfit, as long as the District Dress Code is being followed (all shirts must have sleeves and no skin can be exposed; no “short-‐shorts”). Also they can dress according to the designated school spirit day. For example, one Friday was “Pink Day,” everyone wore pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Students are required to wear their red uniform shirts or red Panther Shirts for field trips. At all times, students must wear closed-‐toed shoes with rubber bottoms and covered heals—no sandals or flip-‐flops. Remember our school uniform colors are red, white, black and khaki. Only these colors will be considered in accordance with the uniform policy.
Students in the S.T.A.M.P. Program will follow their uniform schedule. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Roberts at 754-‐322-‐8750.
