I t was Good Friday in a village church in Cameroon, West Africa.

Le onard stepped to the front of the room to read the story of Jesus cruci ixion. Every year the samepassage from the Gospel of John was read to the crowd in the language that it was available in, thenational language of French. But this year, the priest had asked Le onard to read the story in the localmother tongue of Yambetta.

As he read each word, he became aware of a growing stillness; then some of the older women began toweep. At the end of the service, they rushed up to Le onard, asking Where did you ind this story? We havenever heard anything like it before! We didnt know! We didnt know there was someone who loved us somuch that he was willing to suffer and die like that to be cruci ied on a cross to save us!

Le onard lipped in one of their French New Testaments and showed them that the story was in theBible. We listen to this Passion Story every year during Holy Week, he explained, but they insisted, theyhad never heard it before. This, Le onard says, is what motivated him to translate the rest of the Scripturesinto the only language his people could really understandYambetta!

As we re lect through this Holy Week, my heart's prayer is that many, many more people around theworld would have the opportunity to experience the cruci ixion story with such piercing clarity, and that we would be a part of bringing it to them in the language that holds meaning, weight, and life for them. And may we each experience it anew this year, sharply and graciously.

We Have Never Heard this Before!

    A) Someone who speaks only one language which has never been written B) Someone who speaks one language and understands some words of a neighboring languagethat has a Bible translation C) Someone who can speak the countrys of icial language at work, but speaks their mothertongue with family and friends

The answer is all of the above! Group A cannot read any existing Bible translation. Group B doesnot know the neighboring language well enough to understand biblical concepts like faith, grace, and salvation. Group C views the of icial language as a language of another culture and does not yet know that the Bible and its truths are for them also.

Who Needs a Transla on of the Bible?

Eight Cri cal Weeks All this is for His glory, that the nations might rejoice through encountering the Word MadeFlesh. There is urgency in this; must they wait longer?

Please consider partnering with me, that together wecan minister to the people of Papua New Guinea (PNG).I rejoice in Gods provision through many of you, and Iam encouraged as prayer and inancial partnershipshave steadily increased in the past several weeks! There is still a ways to go before I can be released toacquire my visa though, and the target for this move toPNG is only 9 months away!

More impending is a deadline, only eight weeks fromnow, to reach at least 50% of my monthly ministrybudget so that I can be released to get my last trainingcourses this summer. If we do not meet this deadline,my arrival in PNG could be delayed untilJanuary 2015 ! Please pray with me for this need andprayerfully consider joining the team so that I can goahead with the training and preparations thissummer.

When we read Gods Word in Portuguese, it was like a pieceof blank paper. We got nothing from it. But now when we

read the Scripture in Kaiwa , it is like a crystal clear stream. We can see to the very depths of it. Kaiwa pastor, Brazil
