Our first production for the year is entering the final weeks of rehearsal. This will be another hilarious comedy written by local playwright Elise Greig. We’ve been hunting out all the best kiddies furniture and getting in touch with our inner-child doing elaborate finger painting to make the Theatre resemble a child care centre. Fiona Kennedy and the team have been working long and hard on this fabulous production. Along with some familiar faces, we welcome Catherine Blake to our stage, and new member Dan Knudsen who is designing the lighting. Big thank yous to David Watermeyer for doing the cos-tume design and making some fantastic smocks and Ali Kerr for knocking up a score of kiddies (of the calico variety) who will be the children at ‘Little Acorn’. Can I put in a big plea for volunteers for Front of House. We expect some large crowds along and we are desperately short of names. It really is fun to server the audience and hear their comments when the show is as wonderful as this

one. There are enough members so that you would only need to help out one night in the whole year, so please pick a performance that would suit you and book yourself in. Even better if you bring along a couple of friends. Please contact myself on 3891 5769 (the usual message bank) Also a reminder to encourage friends and family to be-come subscribers. Remember that they can subscribe even after seeing the show. Rod and Maria will be happy to con-vert a single ticket into a subscribers book at interval. It’s the best value for their entertainment dollar! We have been very fortunate to be approached by a few local groups to share the use of the Theatre. This will help to defray our costs, but also will mean more members will need to take an ac-tive hand in the running of the Theatre. Particularly cleaning, tidying up and op-erating lights and sound. Cheers Leo

In March, the monthly meeting falls on the Eve of St. Patrick's Day, and that suggests an Irish theme. So come "wearing o' the green" and you'll be welcome in the parlour. We'll be trolling the treasure trove of prose, poetry and plays, and members new and not so new will bring you treats from the Emerald Isle.

ALL SUBMISSIONS FOR PLAYS FOR 2012 MUST BE IN THE HANDS OF THE CASTING COMMITTEE BY

FEBRUARY MONTHLY MEETING

February Monthly Meeting featured a Devel-opment Workshop: Leo Bradley directed Samantha Yeates (who was so impressive in small roles in "An Italian Straw Hat") in excerpts from "Talking Heads" by Alan Bennett. Sam delighted us with her comic playing, not missing a nuance. A young and am-bitious actor has been cast in a film and will do anything the Director requires - because it is ‘her art’ - even when things look seriously suspect - to us, the audience, anyway. Sam showed us alter-nately the innocence and worldliness of the young actor, and we saw only too clearly the per-ils of life upon the wicked stage - or, in this case, the tarnished silver screen. We members learn so much from these stimu-lating exercises - directors and performers, as well as members and intending members, espe-cially because the discussions following are so thought provoking If anyone is interested in presenting an item at our Monthly Meetings, contact a Member of the Casting Committee. These presentations are very much enjoyed by the members.
